'wildcards' in the galaxy map

Until the recent bug with the galaxy map not allowing you to re-select the system you have searched for, I hadn't realised that whatever you enter is treated as XXXX* ... for example, type BAST into the search, then click the arrow button ... then click it again, and again, and again ... see what I mean?

At times a good feature, at times very annoying one ... e.g. when searching for 3-digit HIP or HD stars - it almost always defaults to the 5-digit ones and click-fest begins to find what you're looking for.

Tell me about it ... it's personally fairly annoying, but then I can see the uses too :)
