Hardware & Technical Will a Thrustmaster T1600m be an upgrade over the default KB+M for combat?

Hello CMDRs,

I am planning to buy a cheap joystick (for the combat element of the game), but i have never used one in games by now.The ones i was looking at were the Thrustmaster T1600m and the TT Hotas X (both around 50 euros), but finally ive decided to go for a T1600m. My question is will this joystick help me steer, spin, chase better than with the KB+M? Also if someone can recommended some button configs for the joystick i will greatly appreciate it. Ty, fly safe.

In my opinion, the T16000m (note the 3 zeros) is superior to kb+mouse AND typical gamepads. It is also the superior choice to many joysticks (I had three previously, but none of them had a twist handle _and_ a hat switch). It is also the best choice for a leftie, unless you are willing to learn to control right-handed and go for a full HOTAS set.

using T.16000M here too, with a lot of success. but i absolutely *hated* the throttle on the stick; it was too chaotic while landing - when you wanted a tiny movement you got a large one instead and it was very difficult to zero. keys are much better suited to that.

plenty of buttons on the stick and base; i use the furthest left row for switching fire groups and targeting, the nearest left row for select subsystem previous/next, the nearest right row has landing gear on it, and that's all for that side

on the stick there is the trigger, left alt-fire selects target in front, centre alt-fire works the discovery scanner and ECM, or chaff depending on the fire group used, and the right alt-fire toggles the cargo scoop. the hat operates the energy management system

this setup works for me but obviously you'll find better places for some of those functions
