No, rebuy is partly based on the ships initial price.
Thanks, I continue to receive conflicting answers and a lot of speculation. I need a sure answer before I start trading in Corvettes as I do not want to spend that effort for no reason. o7
It's based on the purchase price, discounted or not. So if you paid X, that's what the 5% is calculated on.

If you sell the hull, you also don't get more then the reduced price.
Jetson: it's roughly 3.4 million reduced rebuy. Not really a game-changer imho.
I was thinking about stripping my vette and buying another one for this reason, but yeah it’s not really worth it
It doesn't sound like a lot when we are buying ships that cost hundreds of millions but 3.4 million credits is still significant and if I have multiple qualifying ships ... and it's not as if there is a whole lot else going on in Elite Dangerous today. o7
But that's the rebuy. You have to lose your 'Vette for that - something I try to prevent
Of course it makes sense if you have your fleet in reach of a port with ~40% discount. You get the discounted hull difference back, too.
For me it's useless, because both my Vettes are in Carcosa, can't change them except I fly back
Doing the math ... if I spent a day stripping and selling all my FED ships, then re-purchasing them at discount I stand to recover about 20 million and I can earn almost that much during a pisz-break while mining VOpals.
