Will E.D. Run on a Lenovo Thinkpad X1 Yoga i7 Ultrabook 1st Gen

Hi,

Can anyone tell me if E.D. will run gracefully on the following spec laptop I don't know if the processor is up to the job (as it looks to be below min spec) or if the onboard graphics would suffice (I don't know how to compare it against the spec)...

Lenovo Thinkpad X1 Yoga 1st Generation (Ultrabook)
Intel® i7 6600U vPro @2.6Ghz [2 cores , 4 threads]
Intel® HD Graphics 520
RAM 16Gb DDR3
512 GB SSD
Windows 10 Enterprise 64bit

E.D. MINIMUM PC SPECIFICATIONS:
OS: Windows 7/8/10 64-bit
Processor: Quad Core CPU (4 x 2Ghz)
Memory: 6 GB RAM
Graphics: Nvidia GTX 470 / ATI 7240HD (DirectX 11 functionality required)
Network Broadband Internet Connection
Hard Drive: 25 GB available space

Depends on your defenition of good. It'll probably run at 30fps on low 720p or more, depending on how badly the CPU bottlenecks the gpu (i can't believe i'm talking about a CPU bottlenecking an iGPU here)
If it doesn't bottleneck expect around 40 fps on 720p medium.

You want something with decent dedicated graphics. You might get playable framerates if you drop the resolution to 720p and turn everything down. Though they have come a long way, the iGPU is still very weak, and you're using system memory instead of GDDR5. The cpu isn't a true quad core, either.

I wouldn't want to use that laptop for any sort of gaming except some indy titles and maybe minecraft.

I used to run ED on a i5 3230M (dual core, 4 threads, 2.6ghz, turbo up to 3.2), so the your CPU should be able to handle it.
However, my old laptop had a dedicated GPU, a GT 645M, which is comparable to the HD 520, but I have no idea if using the integrated GPU will affect the performance of the entire system.

My old laptop was running ED in medium/high settings, 1368x768 res, at 45fps near stations, 25fps near planetary stations, and over 60fps in space. Not great, but very playable.

I think the GPU is more of an issue here....
only one way to find out...install and run it xD

I'm an Xbox commander and was thinking of purchasing the PC version but this is the only machine I have that's any where close to being able to run it...so I was hoping for some insight to wether it would be reasonably playable before investing.

Thanks for responding.

Probably better sticking to the XBox. It will look better.

I love playing E: D on my Lenovo G50-70 (i3, 6gb, Integrated Intel Graphics) BUT the game takes a couple of minutes to boot due to the integrated graphics:

https://www.cnet.com/products/lenov...tel-core-i3-4030u-1-90-ghz-1600mhz-3mb/specs/

That said, my wife's $500 laptop with nVidia 940M graphics card loads the game in around 15 seconds.

So in summary, while I'm glad Elite runs on my Lenovo G50-70 (i3 with integrated graphics,) I would not recommend buying a new laptop that doesn't meet the E: D minimum specs.

Hope this helps!

You may have already tried but if not https://www.systemrequirementslab.com/cyri
I know the info about non dedicated gpus isn't the best but it may help.

It certainly can run on dual core notebooks with hyperthreading. The performance really depends on what generation of CPU and intel graphics is it. I was able to run it on minimal settings on Lenovo Thinkpad x230 with a lot of lag and bad FPS. On upgraded Thinkpad x260 it seems to be half-decent (Intel graphics 520). Both are just dual-core.

Stick to Xbox. The console experience is good. As I play on both platforms, I can say this from experience. :)

^^ this.

If I had to chose between only using my Potato laptop (images in link from previous post) or an Xbox/PS4, I'd chose the console.

Different story for my main PC vs console, of course.

For a laptop, I recommend a dedicated graphics card, or dont bother. Atleast not as your main PC. I only play ED on my Potato to doing simple things like travel, or house keeping, or basic missions, etc.
