Will future console versions of Elite allow for full save and content access?

I hate to ask this. But I genuinely feel concerned since I recently got told via email that I cannot receive a refund for duplicate points taken from my account for Frontier Store purchased goods. What happened was your store glitched and wouldn't show a confirmation page and sometimes loaded a graphically glitched image as opposed to the standard store screen. For licensing reasons and so on so forth, I couldn't have content switched across to another platform nor be refunded the points taken for duplicate payments, but only offered a swap point for point on another item.

So, long story short. And as much as this is possibly unanswerable at the moment, will we be expected to purchase ALL cosmetics again for new console iterations, even if crossing over from PS4 to PS5, for example?

I have legit spent hundreds of pounds when I combine the PC purchase of Elite, the Xbox plus cosmetics, and the PS4. Loads!

So in being up front about that, do I continue to invest, feeling reassured there's a future for me or will this flal flat on it's face once the new consoles come about due to licensing reasons? 🤔

Yeah all accounts have to purchase duplicate cosmetics unfortunately. The best you can do is have an intention not to duplicate.

You could have years ago put it down to innocent naivety but given it’s been the case for so many years now and so many people probably do it it’s the only anti consumer thing they do.

To their credit they are always obliging on exchanges if you do it within a short time so good on em for that.

If it does cross console generation it should possibly be okay since they’re linked to your frontier account.

Also I’ve never asked for a refund, just exhanges. Don’t you get the frontier points from the ps4 store anyway? I can’t imagine there’s an autobuy if you go over.

If this game comes to PS5 or the future Xbox there is zero chance I'm paying hundreds upon hundreds to duplicate my personalisations all over again.

It will seriously sadden my mood if some licensing crap gets pulled on me again. There's no way Frontier couldn't allocate the paints to the accounts, much like a giveaway, should you transfer your commander data or whatever.

Console Problems...

If I upgrade to an i9 and and RTX 2080, I’ll still have the same account, same cosmetics, all like nothing happened.

Now I suppose it is possible that PS5 or YBox will still use the same accounts, but will they be backwards compatible with the software? Or will you be buying the software again?

If you play on a ps4 and have an Frontier account attached than switching to a ps5 will work, it will be the same account. Only when switching to another console or the PC in which one has to establish a different account would you loose anything.

I suspect it'll all be linked to the network, not the hardware.

When World of Tanks released on Xbox One, I retained all my purchases made on Xbox 360 client, including premium vehicles, account status & unspent resources.

OP is panicking over nothing.

The real question is, will ED be made playable on the next batch of consoles at all? It is not guaranteed.

I bought Elite after I bought my XBox1X, but when I did upgrade my console all the extras for games I already owned transferred over. I doubt this will be an issue.

Panicking is a bit over the top, pal!

Legit told by support previously that due to licensing, particulars cannot be dealt with no matter how they wish to help. For example, owning their goods on Xbox, an Xbox to PS4 transfer will not include returned access to the same cosmetics.

A console successor would technically be a different console as per licensing. Hence my enquiry.

I'm guessing that you'll be able to keep your paint on the PS5. I have a couple of games that started as PS3 and transitioned to PS4 (like DCUO and DOA), and my add-on content carried over. It'll really be up to Frontier, however. Fingers crossed that they do the right thing!

Xbox One Vanilla and Xbox One X are the same at an OS level.

Its very certain that the next Xbox (codenamed Anaconda, believe or not) will be backward compatible with Xbox One/S/X.

Well that's alright then. I haven't really kept up with Xbox developments for a while.

Even if it's not, you'd still log on with the same xbox live account so I'd be very surprised if you lost anything.

Aye, but that then depends on my original point. Would an Xbox Anaconda client even be made?

Well, the PS5 won't be out until 2021, so you're a bit early off the mark with the complaining no? That's if ED even ends up on PS5 - who knows?

Transfer between platforms has never been a thing. Stick with one, or rebuy - it's up to you. I have accounts on PC and XB1 which don't share paint jobs/cosmetics, not the end of the world.

Complaint isn't what this is about but more hypothetical, since they way I see it, I've bought paints and kits etc through the Frontier site store, yet apparently these are not transferable to other systems due to licensing on those particular systems.

So it's me wondering whether a PS4 and PS5, for example, might be considered different systems, since they would be, regardless of being the PlayStation brand or not.

And for your information, across PC, Xbox and PS4, I've spent an obscene amount of money for the game, Horizons and the duplicate cosmetics, which unsettles me a little when I really stop to think about it.

Tactical and Military paints to be free in the game when you unlock top rank Fed and Empire! Yay! Lol, imagine that! 😂

We have precedent of console games doing this before. PS3 and Xbox 360 had save transfer for GTA V and Destiny and probably others I can't recall. I even transferred my Xbox 360 save to Xbox One and then PC for GTA V.

Every XBox 360 game I had purchased additional ingame content for, that was all unlocked on my account as soon as I began playing the freshly purchased XBox One version.
The only things I ever had to rebuy were the core games and expansions, but generally the XBox One version of any 360 game only came as a "complete" or "game of the year" or whatever edition, including the major expansions. I imagine ED will be the same, anything purchased on the MS store and bound to your XBox account (ED, Horizons, any future big expansion) will require a straight up purchase of the new console's version, anything purchased within the frontier store on your game account, controlled by frontier should likely carry over. This tends to be fairly standard, since the platform holder controls your access to stuff purchased in their storefront, while the game publisher controls your access to stuff purchased on your game account within their own closed economy separate from the platform holder's storefront.

It seems likely character transfers across generations within the same console family will, like with existing online games like Destiny, GTAV, etc. be a one-time, one-way thing. You get everything as of your current account state ported over when you choose to import it, and continue playing from there, with accounts on those platforms being forked as the platform ceases to be supported with new updates.

Well I certainly hope FD don't pull any nonsense if and when this happens, since they do things via their own store and already told me about licensing issues, which was why I was neither refunded nor awarded content I already owned crossed over to the other platform.

The PS4, like probably most consoles, saves all it's user data - including what are referred to internally as 'entitlements' - on their own server, linked to a PSN (or what they're trying to call 'SEN') account. Therefore, generally speaking, cosmetic and other DLC purchases don't follow you to a different console.

However, in the case of that wretched game, Fortnite, this isn't the case - cosmetics and other entitlements are saved on Epic's servers, so you don't lose anything no matter what platform you use.

Having never played ED on a console, I am assuming that you cannot log into say, the PC version of the game if you only play a PS4 version - the log in details are different?
