Will history repeat itself...

I'm certain many of us remember the numerous times us explorers got totally pooch screwed when a new update hit (not from lack of content but because of serious game breaking bugs specific to exploring or its inherent mechanics). What do you guys expect this time around? Thinking of headed back to the bubble? Gonna chance it? Have more faith this time around?

All I hope is that it's delivered *after* we all get to BP. Being stuck there a couple of weeks won't bother me....not being able to get there...will.

Going with the flow myself - was out past Sag A during the big data debacle, decided to just let things happen these days..

Last time they did an upgrade to the exploration servers at the same time the big update hit - it was the server upgrade that was the cause of the exploration data troubles, not the update itself. The upgrade was needed because of the large amount of data it needs to handle, since exploration data gets turned in every day and the database keeps growing. This does not necessarily mean that explorers will have problems each time a major patch hits, as most of those won't touch the exploration data server side of things.

There is no cause for alarm. The wings are not on fire.

Except for the fact we seem to have problems with exploration every major patch (and some minor) - 30+ secs for honk results, missing tags, system maps of visited systems "blacked out", data lost whilst selling, the list goes on and on - and isn't specific to the last update.

I'd like to have faith it won't get toasted this time... but I won't be doing anything substantial exploration-wise for the first week or 2 - I hope/expect the Engineers will keep me busy initially anyway. (Unless the blackness calls really loudly, then I might have to answer...)

I'm heading back rapidish.
I get the foreboding feeling of a good old fashioned military style bend over no lube "counselling". Without coffee.
But I may be wrong.....

I have 7A thrusters and 6A shields on my Anaconda and a distributor that can boost. If I can't survive then FD has messed up badly and all I need to do is sit and wait till the screams of horror sorts the problem.

Ironically I'm returning for a re-stock of fuel limpets and a quick repair, won't be selling data just yet.

Pretty much any major update's launch should be expected to bring some severe bugs, and since exploration uses additional server infrastructure, the chances of us experiencing issues is higher than average. If you're outside the bubble, you might want to read up on the forums and see if others are having trouble before you log in. As a generic rule of the thumb, launch days in multiplayer games rarely go smoothly.

Given the possibility of being interdicted by an elite NPC with engineer modded weapons, I suspect getting back before 2.1 goes live may be a good idea. Assuming you're close enough to make that viable.

Anyways, given the FSD and Drive boosts you can get from engineers, I'd consider it a good idea anyway. Getting an AspE to jump 20-25% further and run from wanted NPCs that much faster will go a long way towards keep explorers alive and get to where you want to go faster. God knows I'll be spending A LOT of time at Farseer Inc once this goes live.

Well, there's no way I'll be able to get back to the bubble before 2.1 lands, as I'm off on holiday for 2 weeks pretty soon and I'm still some 40KLY out. I'm hoping that it will land while I'm off and all dodgy bugs are patched before I get back ;)

Currently outbound, and will still be outbound when it drops, and I probably won't be turning inbound until after the first patch or two, so I figure I'm safe, except maybe the annoying honk bug.

I'm heading back. i suspect trouble.

Me too. I'm currently 10,400 lys out from Sol and will be back and docked by tomorrow night, and I plan on selling ALL of my data before 2.1 lands next Thursday. I don't want to risk any bugs with Cartography, and I really don't want to encounter the new improved AI with modded weapons while flying around with over 180,000 lys worth of data.

Looking forward to the update though. :D

I'm just doing some rares trading to bank some cash to kit out my shiny new Asp.... I think I'll wait until after the update before I head out.

I think I've been bit by all of the exploration-related major patch bugs. My favorite is the one that caused a CTD during hyperspace, and made it impossible for me to log back in. A lot of us were impacted by that one, with more bitten every day, and it was a couple weeks before we were able to start getting back in.

Anyhow, I'm out of the bubble and heading further out. I'm not planning to return to the bubble during 2.1 at all because there is literally nothing being added to the bubble that I care about (I might return during 2.1, I'm just not planning on it). So the real question on my mind right now is whether I should return ahead of 2.2, or risk staying out past its release. ;)

I'm due to return to the bubble late Sunday night. I'll be selling all my data (approximately 6600 systems) immediately. Mostly I'm concerned about getting my tail shot off by a souped up NPC whilst my own combat skills are no doubt severely wilted from the last 5 months of exploration.
