Engineers Will I ever have to drive for materials?

I make no claims other than my personal RNG. Drove 56 hours SRV scavenging - not ED play, I mean 56 actual SRV only time using wave scanner to hunt ... So no claim - just fact, depending on how bad your RNG is, despite being on guaranteed right planet, right method, it is certainly possible to go frustratingly long periods without finding single rare that limits certain mods (e.g yttrium no "....

Similar experience here. Most players report better luck though. No spell of bad luck can last forever, but it can sure outlast me.
Honestly, I don't mind getting variable rolls on gear. Provided we get supplied at a reasonable pace, we could live with that. But the bottlenecks made the situation untenable in my case.

Where is that option? I don't want to change any GLOBAL settings since I am happy with my existing ship controls. There is no Digital/Analog option in any of the DRIVING sections.

Yeah... That is getting way too complicated. I'm happy with my other control settings and took me forever to get everything dialed in. I'm not going to risk screwing all that up for this.

What FD needs to do is simply make such an option readily available and CLEARLY identified. Considering such throttle control is such a universal standard in any driving game, this option should be there and it shouldn't require jumping through a dozen flaming hoops to set it up. ;)

I will just suffer with the existing yet woefully lacking control I have been using.

Thanks for the input!

Does it look like this? Also make sure to set FA OFF.

Yeah... I see that same section. It wasn't clear to me though that you can just assign those to the two triggers and this would work as we have been describing. Have you actually tried the SRV with that set like that? Do you have proportional throttle control? The further down the trigger is pushed the faster the SRV goes, and releasing the trigger brings the throttle back down to zero?

That is what I was looking for, but I just want to use the RT for forward. I am using the LT for my THRUST control, and I really like how that works. :)

EDIT: I will head down to a planet and see if that setting works properly.

Thanks for the info! If this works, that would be awesome! :D

Yes I'm literally doing that right now. Light presses go slow and I can gently increase speed to whatever I want by pressing the rigger down further. Very useful for bumpy surfaces but it does "feel" wierd to have it pressed down half way. Guess I'm just too used to other games or something.

Cool! I got interrupted (phone call) and haven't tried it myself yet, but it sounds based on your description that this is indeed the setting I was looking for! I agree that this might get tiresome on long drives having to hold down the trigger all the time, but I usually just use the SRV for salvage missions, and having fast acting throttle control with release OFF is the way to go for that kind of use. :)

Thanks again for the help! :D

This, I found the buggy much more controllable with assist off. Also helps when you need to fire those thrusters to get it up on top of a building to scan that comms array to an assassination mission. I can't fly high with assist on.

Well since they always come in pairs of 3, I would suggest looking for more in the vicinity of the one you shoot, there might be others.

They don't always come in 3s. They sometimes come in 3s.

I don't love the SRV, it's much too bouncy. And it has wheels, for heaven's sake! Why can't I have a nice skimmer to float around in, or a hover-bike? Wheels are so ancient history.

Okay... I set mine up the same way, but my throttle is not returning to zero when I let go of the right trigger. Did you say that your's was zeroing when released?

Mine is working basically the exact same way as when I had the throttle assigned to the RB and LB. The throttle stays where you leave it, and if you want to slow down you must use the REVERSE button you have assigned to move the throttle level back down to zero. Continuing to hold down the reverse button puts the SRV into reverse.

This behaves this way even when I set the throttle to FORWARD ONLY. It read as if I would need to use a TOGGLE button to get reverse to work using the same trigger as forward, but that isn't working like that for me right now. ????

I wonder if there are some quirks in the current SRV throttle controls? Not working as designed perhaps?

Anyway... Not sure if I am going to stay with this new assignment or go back to the LB and RB I had before. With the Elite Controller, I have assigned he LB and RB to my two front underside paddles the same as I use for my ship throttle controls. Obviously easier to remember when the basic SRV controls mimic those of my ship.

I must admit that I'm not crazy about the handling of the SRV either. Since the majority of the planets we seem to end up using this thing on have very low gravity, it would be nice if the SRV was designed to perform better in these ow gravity environments. Right now I feel like I am driving on ICE and SNOW most of the time, handling is so squirrely and loose.

Another great example of why FD should have held off on Engineers and instead continued to flesh out the main feature additions of the original 2.0 release. One BIG misstep they made in this regard was only giving us ONE SRV model with NO upgrade path at all!

Who wouldn't love multiple SRV models to choose from along with module upgrades? This would be something that EVERYONE could use and enjoy along with expanded surface mission options to compliment these additional SRV model and module choices!

This all strikes me as a significant MISSED OPPORTUNITY!

Have you tried FA OFF?

Flight Assist OFF for the SRV? Don't you mean DRIVE ASSIST? No...I haven't tried turning that off.

Does turning that off give you the (Released Trigger = ZERO throttle position) ?

I can't imagine why that unrelated setting would change throttle behavior. ??

Yes, drive assist off.

I think the problem some people have with the SRV is that instead of driving it like a moon buggy, they go all Lewis Hamilton ..
.
Yea... I tested that yesterday... once I go really crazy and drive faster than 10 km/h, which indeed is faster than people can walk and is even a reasonable running speed, I can get the SRV into an uncontrollable spin. I am such a speed maniac... :D
.
That being said, I think my setup is not good, but just don't manage to arrange everything in a way which makes SRV handling with the turret deployed work reasonably well. Anybody here who's using a HOTAS and does well with it? If yes, how is your controls setup?

It's not km/h.

The thing is you really have to pay attention to what kind of surface you are driving on and most importantly the level of gravity. if you are in low G, you have to drive slowly over rough terrain, hell even a small bump on a low G world can send you into a dangerous jump if you are going too fast.. on a high G world you can go pretty fast, even over quite bumpy ground, you stick to the surface like glue. :)
