Engineers Will I keep experimental if I keep rolling?

Like the topic asks, if i'm on gr5, and out of mats, but have mats for an experimental, can I apply the experimental, and continue rolling gr5 later without losing the experimental?
Same question, but at a lower gr, (if i'm gr4, apply exp, can I keep rolling and go to max gr5)?
If you couldn't tell, I don't mess much with engineering.

Just kidding. Only way to lose it is to remove it, replace it, or not pay for the module when you die.

For completeness, you'll also lose the experimental if you switch to another blueprint, say from efficient + phasing to long-range.
