Will i miss out on story bits if i don't jump on all the galnet news stuff?

Will i miss out on stuff if i don't jump on the galnet news items straight away?

(My galnet news is also saying 28 Jan 2015.. and if thats correct than i have a serious problem and should consult a doctor, after some trading and exploring ofcourse)

oh, well i thought these news items were things you could go investigate by actually taking your ship and go there to help fight or do missions or stuff like that

Oh you can, for sure. But if you have to take a few days away from the game it's not going to destroy the story for you too much.
And you don't have to investigate the news stories to keep up with them, either. I read them but I haven't been to any of the places where fighting is happening.

Hardly 'place holders' when player actions actually effect the outcomes. It's not necessarily traditional content or fully fleshed out, but it's not a place holder either.
