Will it always be the year 3301?

Next year will be 3302.

Elite was released 16th of December in 2014 and then the in-game year was 3300.

In January it changed to 3301.

I kind of wish it was 3015 in the game ..
That way you could easily alter the timestamp of any standard blog to print 30YY onto any new post.
Instantly you'd get a futuristic timestamp, which probably won't show up on google for 986 years (yay!)

Currently you can't tie in with the game without altering every date by hand,
because in ED (3001) the year is ; (UTC) YYYY + 1000 - 14

A very mini mini-gripe, but nonetheless, could have been done as 3001 is fairly arbitrary already?

The year is based on the timeline of the previous Elite games: Frontier – Elite II was set in 3200, First Encounters (Frontier 2 – Elite III :p) in 3250, ED is set in 3300. Simple as that.
