Will JWE benefit the "Game boost" mode in the PS5?

In just one month, the PS5 and XSX will be available to the public. These two consoles would provide backward compatibility to the previous generation's library of games, with some noted performance on the games running on the new consoles. So far, JWE will be part of the playable library of games that could run on next-gen, as Xbox runs all previous generation consoles, and the PS5 would run all but 10 games in the PS4 library.

So far, XBOX looks to have all previous games run a lot smoother with the new console. Where the framerate gets better, load times are shorter, there was no stuttering during the test period, and the UI is more responsive, as seen in the verge's week of testing and trying out destiny 2 on the XBOX Series X.

This would be great news for JWE players on Xbox, as they could see similar benefits in performance running JWE.

Playstation does have a similar function to the PS4 library of games, but only to 'select' titles. Not all will get the same boost of performance, and some would get PS4 pro levels of power boosts as a substitute. To which I want to ask if JWE could see such a boost in performance, as the only confirmed title at this point that gets Game Boost is Ghost of Tsushima, bumping it to 60fps, and faster load times. And somewhere around the top 100 PS4 games would see such a boost, and I am being hopeful as seeing Jurassic World Evolution on their video on games that defined the PS4 generation. Congratulations on being showcased!

Could JWE see such jumps in performance? I would love to play this game alongside planet coaster when PS5 launches and see the notable jump to next-gen with a higher framerate and faster loading times, and maybe 4K resolution if that is possible to implement thanks to the PS5 specs. Thanks for hearing me out!

Good news everyone!

The PS5 embargo is finally lifted and reviewers are able to showcase what the PS5 could do, and Digital Foundry was able to release gameplay footage of PS4 games running on PS4 pro and PS5. These games were selected from a library of games that does not have any developer updates that makes them compatible with the latest consoles, and cover a great range of games that would even struggle running at 20fps in the PS4 pro. And the good news? The PS5 runs these games, fantastically!

From Digital Foundry's testing, a large portion of these games run a solid 60fps throughout their testing on the PS5. This is superb news as a good portion of the games that run with an uncapped framerate or capped at 60fps would utilize the specs of the PS5 fully. This is wonderful news for next gen owners who would like to try out their games on the new hardware, especially Jurassic World Evolution.

For comparison, I made a large park in Isla Nublar 1993 that had more than 250 dinosaurs, a park to test out the limits of Jurassic World Evolution on consoles. As expected, my test of Jurassic World Evolution on base PS4 with that park, has the game running around 10fps!! 😬 This was an enjoyable test to pull off as I wanted to push the limits and see what the game is capable of, it was remarkable to see it not crash, but it was not enjoyable in the long run.

I am looking forward to recreate that park with the new PS5 console, and let you all know what the game is like with the next generation of consoles. This thread has been mainly focused on the PS5 as Sony's communication has been very hush hush, but it should be stated that both playstation and xbox players are going to look forward to a more boosted and stable experience playing their games, JWE included!

I will post more on gameplay performance on this thread once I have my hands on the console.

Hello everyone!

Hope you all have been taking care. I have to apologise today for misinformation I brought up on the frame rate of Jurassic World Evolution on PS4. I thought that the gameplay of Jurassic World Evolution on PS4 could go to 60fps, but remains below 30 due to the low performance power that the PS4 delivers. This is not the case. When comparing my switch game with that of PS4, the game runs on both systems at a capped 30fps, and comparing it to gameplay of a PC port of JWE at 60fps really shows that there is a 30fps limit. And a recent reddit post has indeed confirmed that to be the case on the PS5 as well.

Seeing the game run at 30fps is not bad. The game is a slow paced game to which the lower frame rate won’t be that big of an issue, but I do see it also benefiting a lot with a 60fps boost for the animation of dinosaurs, when riding the ranger or ACU vehicles, or when handling fast paced situations, bumping the framerate to 60pfs would compliment those moments in the game. I do hope JWE could get a next gen patch for both consoles that would allow for the game to reach its potential to make the most of a higher frame rate, resolution, and performance like other games making the generation jump.

I should hopefully expect my PS5 in a few days, and I hope to do some experiments of my own to see if the next gen platform would bring anything new to JWE. So far, it sounds like it runs the game in a consistent 30fps with no dips. I want to see if the expedition center lag is still a thing, if the game has a new threshold for dinosaur numbers, and if the sounds start to cut off after so many assets have been rendered. Will keep you all posted in this thread! And let us know what your experience is like playing JWE on Xbox series X and PS5 if you were able to do so.

Thanks again and take care!

Hey everyone!

I was able to play Jurassic World Evolution on the PS5 for the past 2 days now and have done some tests. The game has been GREATLY improved thanks to the more advanced tech the PS5 could deliver compared to last gen's ps4. Here are some of the things that I have noticed when playing on next gen hardware.

From my experimentation, I tried Jurassic World Evolution with these items:

• OLED B9 TV
• PS5 System with internal custom 825GB SSD
• PS4 System with internal Firecuda 2TB SSHD
• Sandisk Extreme Pro V2 2TB external SSD with Jurassic World evolution installed.

Load times

The load times have been greatly reduced when playing on the PS5. Some large maps I would load up on my PS4 that would have around 200 dinosaurs would take ≈ 1 minute and 10 seconds. That same map on PS5 would take ≈ 20 seconds! This is due to the internal SSD of the PS5. Despite JWE being stored in an external SSD, my PS4 loads it up with my internal SSHD specs, and would not provide the speed that is expected from the SSD, the PS5 on the other hand uses the internal SSD's speed and makes the most out of my external SSD when it comes to loading the game and its data.

As this is a PS4 game, the loading speeds are limited when compared to PS5 as the software is not used to an SSD based device by default, as it was made with the previous generation's HDD internal storage, but it is very fast for what it is and makes segments like transfering between maps in the main campaign very seamless.

Since it is so fast to load data on the PS5, the User Interface also benefits by speeding things up. Menu scrolling and map panning has become super slick as seen below, even the expedition center bug has gotten some improvements, instead of lagging for several seconds, the lag only lasts less than a second.

Frame rate

60FPS! No I am not losing my mind, I made sure of that. Before testing out the capabilities of the game in terms of frame rate, I was lead to believe that it was capped at 30fps. However, when I got my PS5 and tried it out myself, the animations were a lot smoother than I anticipated, and I had doubts of the 30fps claim. I played other playstation games that were confirmed to be capped at 30fps, like Ratchet and Clank, Horizon Zero Dawn, and the Crash N-Sane trilogy. All of these games run at a capped 30fps, but looks very choppy when compared to JWE. To finalize this claim I went and tested out the JWE game on both PS5, and Nintendo Switch, the latter was determined to be capped at 30fps, and JWE on the PS5 is a much much smoother experience than what 30fps could offer.

It is hard to see it as first as JWE is a very slow paced games, and titles like these could run at 30fps and would not affect the enjoyment of the game. However, it is very noticable when seeing particle effects, the hammond lab hatch opening, when guests are moving, when plants are shaking in a storm, and when dinosaurs are in a more engaged state of animation. For reference, here is a small clip of an Albertosaurus taking down the corythosaurus, the smooth 60fps could be seen during the animation of the takedown, especially when the carnivore lunges in for the final bite.

Update: The game is not 60fps as initially thought, but it is locked at 30fps. Despite it, it is locked to deliver a constant 30fps performance without any hiccups, and looks really smooth despite the limitation. This is still impressive.

Information on video game frame rates on PS5 could be found here:

Performance

Again, this is something mind blowing when compared to the base PS4. The game runs at the optimal 60fps cap during my 10 hour challenge mode map in sanctuary in the JW era. I tried to push the system to lower the frame rate in these areas:

• Heavy guest traffic: No dips in frame rate
• Large dinosaur populations: I have 120+ dinosaurs in the map, no dips in framerate.
• Tornado attacks: I drove super close to the tornado, and the frame rate did not drop at all.

This is amazing as my PS4 struggled when I would go for large parks, and even moments when the fan starts screaming when a lot of particle effects are being rendered, like the steam in the Pteranodon Aviary. Below you should find one test I made to push the limits of the PS4 by having 500 struthiomimus in a park to reach demanding levels, and see how it works with the PS5. The results are impressive:

The only thing I noticed is that the panning on the expedition center map feels a lot slower when compared to playing on the PS4 and switch, then again, this could also be my perspective due to everything else speeding up. Another is how the game takes a quick second to showcase the information of the struthiomimus in the 500 dinosaur test, it would make sense that the game is looking for the data of the struthiomimus I have selected from the other 499.

Overall, playing Jurassic World Evolution on a next generation console has become one of the more definitive options for the sim management game. This showcases not what Jurassic World Evolution is like on newer systems, but also showcasing what future projects are capable of now that the bar of consoles limitation has been raised significantly.

I do hope an update could come soon that allows a resolution mode for JWE, where it could render more vegetation, a larger draw distance for shadows and objects, and an overall polished level of detail, similar to the PC renders of JWE. Xbox users have the added bonus of outputting the game in 4k, and I hope the PS4 has a similar upscale in resolution eventually. One last thing I think would work well is to give the console games a more optimized data transfer system to make use of the SSDs similar to The Last of Us's recent update to cut load times, this update for JWE should eliminate any stutters the game could have loading assets and information, and would make loading maps and transferring between maps in the main campaign mode just as seamless.

I had a blast playing JWE on the PS5 and using it to benchmark what the system is capable of, and I was wondering if anyone else got similar results in their PS5's or XSX's. It has improved a lot with the newer tech, and it baffles me how I managed to play this game for 1300 hours on the original PS4 😂

I hope you all find this thread interesting and informative, and that you all have been taking care during this time. Have a wonderful day everyone, and thanks for reading! 👋
