Will KS starter ship be purchasable with real money on launch? Would like it so?

I wonder if you'd like to see a system similar to some other game in space where you could buy some of the ships from start

Now, I understand elite is about progressing to get the new better ship, and I am ok with that.

However I think that with many more ships coming (the 30 total announced) it would be nice to have some options at the start, for who wants to pay some extra to have a better or faster overall experience

I am thinking many work a lot and dont have the time to grind from a sidey to a cobra (when you really start to see a difference in gameplay basically, with meaningful cargo and what not), so just wanted to ask, what do you think?

It could also perhaps help the game as a business model, if balanced correctly (i.e. You will not be able to buy an ASP or Anaconda etc.)

I asked similar in old forum that the kickstarter ship packs could be offered as starter addons for those that missed it.

There was a big uproar from a lot of kickstarter backers that they were there bonuses for backing.

I work a lot, I hardly have time to play on a good day but I don't want anything like this in the game.

I understand the helping the business side of things but it'll probably cause more hassle than it's worth.

I'm happy to make my meagre amount of credits when I do get to play and perhaps accept any handouts from time to time from the rich folk who have all the time in the world. I'm not completely adverse to putting RL money into games for micro transactions, but we already have that and in Elite for ship skins etc. it's as far as I'm willing to accept.

Instead of buying ships, why not take a few days off work (paid / unpaid) and enjoy the game instead. That way no-one can moan.

I am a KS backer. I growl at anyone who impinges on my privilege.

I jest. But I do actually growl. Whilst I understand the desire, it sets a bad precedent.

I got no problem with it. In fact, I think that anyone who backed at a level comparable to the KS should get that level of (digital) perk. It cost FDEV nothing extra.

I doubt they will allow players to "buy" ships. If they intended on doing it they probably would have those ships on the store for sale already.

I'm lucky because I backed on the KS and I can start with a few choice upgraded ships (my Cobra fully upgraded being one). But those ships I can start in (Cobra and Eagle) have no value. So I can't just start with the cobra and sell it off for a sidey and keep the change. If I want a different ship I have to grind just like everyone else does. All be it in a upgraded Cobra MK III ;)

Don't have a problem with it if people want that. Personally, I deliberately didn't pledge to that level on the KS so I wouldn't be tempted to take a shortcut into a Cobra. I want to start from the Sidey with 100cr and do all the work myself.

No, just no. This is Elite and not Star Citizen where you can buy ships and pay to win.

ED did exactly the same thing as SC when they sold tiers with ships included during the kickstarter, the only difference is SC carried on doing it after the KS ended. So if SC is Pay-2-Win then Ed must be as well.

No, not really the same thing at all.

Id Like it because Im in a position where I will probably struggle to play more than a couple of hour most weeks due to work / family - but I can completely understand the other point of view and its not a deal breaker for me (though it may make me look a bit more at solo play at the start if other people have been able to get some serious hardware and I'm struggling to get anywhere without getting griefed.)

I did note though that as I have beta access i will get one of five extra ships free - now as these ships have not yet been announced and there is no date for them to come into the game I can only assume that as I get one free the other four will be chargeable (and presumably they will be good ships to get people to pay) - this may be an expansion pack I guess or it could just be that you can buy each ship with real money but it certainly seems like that will be an option even if not at launch?

I am not a KS backer but I don't think that they should offer a ship upgrade for cash. The KS backers took a chance on FD if ED had not made it out of the development stage they would have lost their pledge and so received the KS packs as a thank you for their faith in the project.

If you don't get much time to play then the game will hold you for longer, there is no 'win' in ED no race or leader-board.

I believe it is only a matter of time until ships, especially the big ones will be available at the store.
Think about the financial possibilites that lay raw down there.
Wait for it....

I missed out on the KS because I simply didn't know it even existed. This isn't really my fault per se, but I do not expect to have access to those rewards at this late date.

Would I like to able to buy in now and further support ED's continued development? Sure!

I don't expect to able to do that at this point however, since that ship has sailed for me unfortunately. Besides, I can get most of those rewards within a week of fairly casual playtime anyway, and opening the micro transaction genie's bottle is far too risky to justify me having access to reward's I don't really deserve.

i think i would rather be able to pay for a month insurance that restores the ship you are flying when destroyed, that why once you get to that hard earn ship it will be easier to keep and avoid problems if destroyed before you manage to have enough cash to buy insurance.
that said working and trading up ships is part the fun of the game, but buying for an initial trade up only to something a little better is not a bad idea (and become the ship you get when your ship is destroyed).
