Will pirates leave you alone if you drop cargo?

I've started not resisting interdictions when I have no cargo. Guess what happens?

Almost always I get scanned, they realize I have no cargo and they leave me alone. Even ships that are enemies just leave me alone. Only once was I attacked by a psycho pirate. All I did was was boost away and jump.

So, if you have cargo, try dumping some. If that doesn't work, then try dumping more. Practice being fast at doing this with the menus. But if you don't fight the interdiction you have plenty of time. If desperate drop all the cargo.

If you don't have cargo, don't fight the interdiction. All pips to shields and engines, get chaff ready and see what happens. Let him scan. If attacked boost and jump.

IMHO Pirate archetype NPCs basically need to be changed to cease fire when the Player begins dumping Cargo, indicating cooperative intent.
No point in trying to agree to the (unspecific) demand and keep tossing out Cargo after Cargo, only to find out the Pirate NPCs is still not happy... all while continuing to fire all the time.

The trap previously was small ships didn't have enough to drop, and large ships could not drop enough in time

The small ship issue seems fixed, but with your suggestion, Large ships should be good too

Rumor has it that it works sometimes, but not always. And some pirates just start shooting right away anyway.

I don't care how good the AI is there is no way I would ever drop cargo. As for the OP the chances are they will blow you away anyway, so rule 1: if you cant fight it leg it.

Well, that's what I would have said but when I was fighting this new AI NPC in my Cobra III he disabled my thrusters. I was just spinning there unable to move. I dropped 6 out of 16 of my Performance Enhancers and he scooped them up and left me alone. This was the first time I'd dropped cargo for a pirate. I suppose I didn't have any other option at the time and I was surprised it worked. I managed to repair and reboot and got 1% on the thrusters and went on my way.
