Will release of ED inspire collecting?

With the release of ED, and all of the successes that will come with it :) does anyone think that this will inspire new fans to go looking for the old and original Elite stuff?

By that i mean will the old big box versions of the game rise in value? Will any related paraphernalia become sought after?

Im guessing most old timers here will have plenty of original copies of the original games right

This kind of thing definitely happens in music when an old band releases new material, but can it happen in gaming?

I don't know about old copies of software, but if FD could team up with Matchbox or something and release little toy Asps and Pythons, I'd totally collect those and build a huge sandpit :)

If only I wasn't tapped out on rep there'd be some headed your way. :)

Why not work a deal with LEGO, its worked for Starwars, DC , Marvel and Harry Potter to name just a few.

Wouldn't it be great to not only play elite, Listen to elite on LaveRadio and then build elite models.

It will and already has. My buddy pappy already picked a copy of Elite up for c64 from eBay and he owns a few of them now.

It will certainly inspire clothing. I misread the title slightly... Collecting connects us to the inner rodent, so why not. Elite T-Shirts, Keyrings, and Bar Globes. The sky is not the limit. The Milky Way certainly is. Maybe a Thargoid shot glass, to celebrate our big friendly universe.

It started with the original box. And it was glorious.

I've been collecting Elite boxed games for a few years now, and when ED hit kickstarter there was a definite increase in demand and decrease in availability of the classic versions. I suspect that the same will happen once ED hits retail release.

You can check out elite archives.co.uk to see a few of my collection. More will follow in the coming months...

As Malicar said.

if Frontier play their card right an fill their store with affordable products then I can see many elite gamers buying collections.

imagine you could get the following

  • £29,99 you could get 12cm diecast ship models.
  • £49.99 6" diecast stations
  • £2.99 on returning to faction space with your discoveries, you can name a newly discovered star system.
  • £0.99 ship decals.

with 52,312 backers, if only a quarter of them bought something would add up to hundreds of thousands being added into the pot. now imagine after release when you have over a million players ££££££.
