Will Repair Limpets Fix lost Hull Integrity?

See subject.

After 4 years I am considering doing a bit of exploring. My plan is to go up as far as I can to the top edge of the galax and then fly away from galactic center until I run out of galaxy or run out of patience - which ever come first. My only concern is that every jump into witch space and minute spent in super cruise costs hull integrity.

Can that lost integrity be repaired with repair limpets or an AFMU?

What is the minimum one can live with before repair is necessary or you just have to turn around and return home?

What about minimum jump range (I've got one candidate that can do 40LY and another that can do 49LY).

I'm sure most of my questions could be answered by YouTube but...

I consider y'all the experts and YouTube for me is just entertainment.

Comments, suggestions??

No, integrity is only repaired while docked. At low (or zero) integrity your hull is more susceptible to damage (not as strong), that's all.

What jump range you want is up to you. You can jump short distances in a high range ship, you can't jump long distances in a short jump range ship so most people skimp on defences & go long. I went to beagle point in a 19ly ship, it can be done if you are sufficiently motivated.

No, but it doesn't need to be.

If it drops to 0%, you'll have 30% less hull strength. That's it. Provided you're generally careful not to ram things in supercruise (or normal space...) - or have access to repair limpets - you'll never need to worry about it.

Both should be fine - that's enough range to reach almost any system, get around the galaxy reasonably quickly, and cross most inter-arm gaps without really getting slowed down. (40LY is more than almost any pre-engineering exploration ship, and you get to carry stuff with you as well)

Pick the one you like the idea of spending weeks in.

I've pulled into places after extended trips and been hit with massed phasing attacks before I could get repairs!

It's really easy to not go into such places, though.
Most experienced explorers know which systems to avoid with their hard drives full of money. :)

The lower hull strenght is only a problem if you like ramming into planets. I'm quite a lousy pilot and I love canyons so I've some experience with that. But I always pack a decent shield and I only ever died because of this when I forgot to switch it on before landing.

I am very clumsy with planetary "close-examination" at times. Especially when I get myself caught in that perma-descent situation without enough thrust to recover.

Even though I had full shields on, my hull went down to about 70% (imagine if shields were off !). But fortunately I brought along a 3A repair limpet controller : a single limpet brought my hull back to more than 90%.

So, if you have the space, bring a repair limpet controller and a couple of limpets; more limpets can be synthesized.

Wait - someone said hull integrity can only be repaired when docked? That's seperate from the actual hull. You're talking about the "hull" item listed along with all the other modules right?

Important because I've already added a repair limpet and a 4T cargo hold to carry 4 of the limpets.

Yes they are different things. Your hull can be at 100% heath & 0% integrity, the low integrity simply means any damage will take more off your hull heath than if integrity were higher. Integrity is diminished while in supercruise, it is normal for integrity to be low or zero on an exploration ship, but it is unlikely to be damaged in a time-critical situation so it isn't usually a big deal. If you are worried about ultimate hull strength (as a player like Morbad would be) just fit more armour to compensate & sacrifice jump range.
