Will the F63 Condor be flyable outside of CQC?

Titles says it: will we be able to fly the F63 Condor in the normal open galaxy eventually, too?

From Newsletter #80:

A render of the new modified F63 Condor Federal Fighter. The Condor has seen some minor modifications for player control in CQC, and the new version will replace the existing Federal Fighter in the open galaxy later this year as an AI-piloted craft.

So for starters it seems it will only be controllable for players within CQC and be reserved for NPCs in the open galaxy. But will that change eventually?

I guess we might see it in normal play, but not before launching from and landing in Anaconda Hangar bays has been implemented.

Ooh! That looks nice! I reckon I could fit one of those in the Anaconda's hold, apparently it can be modified to carry a Sidewinder...

That's why I mentioned it.

Also, CMDR Starschulz, it's right that the Condor can't hyperjump, but it can enter supercruise, so it would still have some limited usefulness in the current game:

I really hope not!.

The only reason being is we are apparently getting 30 flyable ships in the persistant universe. Given the diamonback in both flavours counts as 2 ships rather than different configs of the same ship, I suspect if the condor became usable - even if practically useless - then that would be one of the 30 too.

My hope is AFTER we get the 30, then we may get bonus extras, of which i would love the condor to be one.

We will get more than 30 ships. This game is supposed to run for years, do you really think they'll stop making ships altogether once they have 30?

Is it flyable in CQC - I thought the blurb said AI pilotable?

Now in bold for you :p

When I spoke to David Braben in December, he said the F63 would be flyable in the game at some point, but that it didn't have an FSD.

Presumably then, it could only be put in the game where a non-FSD enabled role could be found. I had thought this mean as an AI or pilot-able ship that could be launched from a larger ship (Drone Bay rack anyone?) but I suspect now that it could just be as a Close Quarters Combat ship for that aspect of the game.

We can theorise until the space-cows come home, but in the end we'll only know when they are added to the game.

I *hope* not. But what happens, and what I hope for do not always tally.

What I DO think however is once the 30 ships are done, FD probably will sit back for a while on that side for the simple fact that as soon as we can get out of our seats, they will have 30 entire ship internals (apart from the cockpit) to build. i dunno how much they have done in an internal build, but I looked behind the door in my sidewinder last night and all there is is........ nothing. A square hollow box on the floor marking its size and that is it. It is possible much of that still has to be done.

That's strange. Have you seen the screenshot in post #5? Because there it definitely seems that the Condor indeed has an FSD - unless I am completely mistaken and SC doesn't require an FSD.

Thanks - quite right - I re-read the newsletter and then edited my post already. :)

I thought FSD was used for both SC and Hyperdrive. Can you SC with the FSD turned off?

If so you could drop FSD unit completely for an in-system fighter which would leave quite a lot of power for other equipment.

I was hoping ... nay expecting ... the Condor to be flyable. Yeah OK, so it doesn't have a jump drive, but we could dock it with a bigger ship ... in an ideal world :D

I'm not sold on the ship myself.

It sounds fast and agile, but if it's got a balsa wood hull I wouldn't want to fly it much. Getting your butt kicked by a hauler would be embarrassing.
