Will the Federation attack a player if they join the Empire and raise rank?

Hello all,

If a player joins the Empire and starts raising rank by completing missions for the Empire and killing Federation ships, will that player be attacked in all Federation systems going forward?

Curious if joining a faction essentially destroys your ability to be a free roaming trader?

Thanks for the responses.

I'm top ranked in the Federation, and trying to infiltrate the Empire nobility to see how far I can. No problems so far.

Maybe in the futur, but i'm currently friendly with the federation and allied with empire (i know, it's silly) and have no problem with both factions.

Levelling for the empire did not even reduced my federation reputation.

You can gain rank in any of the alliances without losing in the others. Think of it as having dual citizenship. The alliances are not at war with each other, but from other forum posts I have seen that in the future it could change and you might be faced with an option to have to choose which citizen path you wish to stay with.

Depends on how you raise faction or ranks.
If you raise them by killing Feds then Feds will decrease from those acts.
If you raise them by trading or missions (without waging war on the opposing faction(s)) you should be fine.

I've raised ranks with both and remain neutral.
I know another player who is friendly with Federation and Empire.
