Will there be a Mentoring System?

As a newcomer to ED, I wondered if there will be a 'mentoring system' for ED? I seem to recall (from my limited time with the sim) EVE had something like that going on, with some of the vets able to 'adopt' a few newbies and gently guide them through some of EVE's intricacies, basically helping to give them a positive welcome into the whole experience.

I think the initiative was supported by the developer, too, who were keen to see some of their most experienced players ensure that new players don't get scared off, either by the complexities of the sim or by initially bad experiences at the hands of more seasoned players. I guess you could argue it's more important for a subscription-based sim to do everything it can to retain its player base, but even so I think ED could benefit from such a scheme. People here seem keen to share their knowledge and experience of the sim, after all.

I have to say so far ED's players have been a very welcoming bunch; they have certainly helped me via this forum. It would be good to see a 'mentoring system' for in-game sessions (perhaps via voice talk) when the full release happens. I think I'd appreciate being able to tap a vet for a brief chat about any aspects of ED I was still very unsure about.

Just an idea. What do you guys think?

I doubt it will happen. The premise of Elite is that your in a ship on your own with 100 creds and off you go.

There are no guilds/corps planned.

On the bright side, whenever you need any help just post up or search the forums and you'll usually get the answer you need in a few mins.

i would say nothing official but if you need a hand just post. I'm sure there will even be pilots who would be willing to fly with new players for a couple of runs until they get the hang of it, i would if your start point was near one of my regular trade routes and we were on at the same time.

^ I think this will be part of the emergent gameplay. There will probably be players that will lure newbies into ambushes too. Dangerous...yeah.

I don't think there needs to be some official mentoring system. There are a number of resources available already to help a noob out. These forums, You Tube videos, etc.

I guess it's not a bad idea on an informal, purely player driven basis. There will always be people who want their hands held, and I don't say that in a completely derogatory way. Perhaps you could volunteer to hold hands - er I mean mentor. :D

I dont think it has to be that formal though, us agree to help someone and meet them in game perhaps.

Sounds like EVE, so it must be a bad idea.

It's a joke, pointed at all the threads where anything even smelling like EVE is shot down immediately.
