Will there be changes in 2.1 in relation to how ranking up in the Empire and Federation works?

I can't bother to go look for link, but Dev said that they won't touch military ranking in 2.1/1.6. It was in one of the live streams, newsletter threads or in some other random discussion about 2.1 and missions changes. And there is too many threads and pages of posts to go through.

My hopes of conflict zones mattering in ranking once again dashed. Time to trade and go back to Tun

I spent so much time in Tun and Cubeo that they both gave me a pass to the executive lounge to make my visits a bit more comfortable. Now that I'm a King and Admiral, I can go to the VIP lounge, so I guess it was worth it for that because it wasn't worth it for the Cutter and Corvette. They're both gathering dust somewhere while I have fun in an Asp.

The only change I'm aware of is nerfing dumbfire proximity damage to Skimmers, in addition to adding in a ton of Point Defense systems. Won't matter if you can use fixed weapons (cannons work especially well) though. MCs with the new incendiary ammo might be interesting as well. Standard MCs work good too. Heh, shockwave cannons. :D

I haven't tried carpet bombing with prox mines, but they might have some potential use too given they're supposed to have radius damage.

More traffic on planets as well as ships that can and will fight down there, and the potential for HIP 10716 to actually start scanning you before you dock. That and the new system states could prove interesting for those that aren't expecting it. I'll have to put it on my list of things to test in the beta. I'm wanted there so it should open up opportunities for some planetary dog fighting. :)

What I hate is that you can rank up with both superpower... flying a Corvette in imperial space... federation power expansion to imperial system aaaand life goes on! :D
This is what I call immersion-breaker.

Eventually that won't be possible and you'll have to make a choice. No idea when that will be implemented though. I've been poking and prodding over that for awhile now but never get a response.

Have the devs mentioned anything?

Military career is something Michael wants to look at in later updates. But considering your main gripe, according to your posts in another topic, that it takes too long to get the most expensive ship: dont count on that changing much. If you want the top ranks, you'll need to do a lot of work one way or the other.

My loyalty lies with whomever catches my interest the most. My reputation precedes me. I have conducted missions in favor of the Empire as I have conducted missions for the Federation. Neither begrudge me for I have not crossed either. I am my own, and recognized among both factions as a circumstantial asset. I have been titled to ships of either faction for the benefit of my services.

Lore-wise I see no issue there. Politically I ought to be hailed and questioned about my intentions should these be unclear.

At the very least the ability to get imperial missions in an imperial station would be welcome, coupled with the removal of the log in log off exploit, coupled with a decrease of number of missions required for a rank up.

Bottomline: Remove exploits, but make it smoother for those who want to do it legit.

That's what I'd like to see.

They could fix the log in/out thing easily just like they did with rares. They haven't, which means there's some other reason why they've allowed it to continue.

The new NPC system, AFAIK, is supposed to give the player more choice as to what missions to take on while relying less on RNG. As it is faction based, you can now specifically request missions from Imperial factions, so you're no longer stuck waiting/praying for a mission from a specific faction. As for a decrease in missions, I dont see why that is required. Becoming the highest military ranking person in the galaxy shouldnt happen on a rainy afternoon, IMHO.

Be fun down the line if they go into conflict and you have to make a choice who to side with or you lose the rank. :)

It is now with the charity missions. Or stacking a bunch of missions for the same objective.

I'm not saying it should be done in an afternoon, but not in 200 hours either.

Well, guess it depends on perspective. Modern single-player games usually have you unlock everthing in +-30 hours. It took me a little over 900 hours to get my Corvette in ED. Thats totally fine with me, and I enjoyed the ride. I am in favor of adding 'military careers', but it should still take a very considerable ammount of time to get to the very highest ranks. As long as there is no military rank decay everyone can get there eventually, and if the gameplay itself is fun enough it doesnt even matter if someone got further than someone else. I am not as great a pianist as many others are, but as long as I get rewarded for my practice I am fine with that. :)

In this case, the rewards are not worth the time. Life is too short.
