Will there be some sort of transportation system?

Is there anything planned to move your commander to other systems without you flying a ship there?

Some sort of mass transportation / teleporting system. Not necessarily to every system, maybe just one every 50LY, or maybe every Hi Tech system.

I was buying a sidewinder, stripping it down and jumping and landing to refuel, then sell it when I arrive at my other ship.
Now I have an adder with a fuel scoop that I am using to transport me around.

Are there any plans for a system to travel to someone else when they are online?

Short answer is no. However, there will be a method of having any of your ships 'flown' to you. This will cost and will take as much time as if you were flying it. But a fast travel system, no.

This is all we need.

I disagree.
If I'm playing down in imperial space and a friend of mine buys the game it would be nice to be able to join them at the starting system.
If you are in a low range ship, like a viper, its a pain to travel so far.

When my ship explodes I magically appear back at the last station I docked at, so teleportation does exist in the game already.

It's supposed to be ejection pods not teleportation. And we should also be getting multiple saves so having one in different areas shouldn't be an issue.

With multiple-ship ownership, why not have a ship available with decent jump-distance? Then with the mechanic that Spivey mentioned, you could easily get to your friend and then have your ship delivered.

shifted my base of operations to alliance space yesterday. Would have been handy if I could have slung a rope behind my asp to tow the T6

Thats what I'm doing with my adder, but it just seems like a bad system. I got a few ships in different locations and my adder has a good jump range.

They need to not only introduce a transportation system but go one further and make it a viable career path for players. At it's basic level it would be AI drivers transporting AI passengers, if a player uses it then they would be given priority of course, if a player wanted to drive they would be given a mission like usual, so it would be more freelance, they could possibly give bigger jobs though, with perhaps multiple routes, although most would be one off trips i'd say. The game should make it clear to the player when the driver is AI or human and the same for the passengers, it would be quite a rush I reckon especially if the trip involved sight seeing through an asteroid belt etc!

I was thinking about this the other day.
It would be really cool if the Federation, (Empire or whoever), decided they could and would build a 'Stargate' (whatever you want to call it). From say Wolf 359 to Riorte, i.e. Sol to Lave.
This would be a stable wormhole from A to B without the need for an interstellar FSD.
This could have all sorts of ramifications and implications for trade, politics, sabotage, counter sabotage, the list is endless.
So in some ways it would be up to the players whether it got built or not. If you don't want it, take missions that hinder it. If you do then take missions that help it. Of course some corporations that players work for may be for or against so players may not even realise that they are helping or hindering sometimes.
Maybe a future plot line . . .

Precisely what I am doing! :)

I have my Viper parked @ Arth (Great for upgrades BTW), and my shieldless Adder with 22LY range/26T Cargo, is the viper's sugar daddy. Looking forward to taking her for a spin once she's out of dry-dock (or whatever the space-equivalent of that is ;) ).

I'm happy with the system though (well, I will be when we can have ships brought to us). I really don't want insta-travel, though if FD ever implement Orca space-buses where players can be passengers, I'd be happy with that too. Back in the days of Mercenary, if you didn't have a ship, you could take space-taxis, and then buses to get where you wanted to go. I'd be happy with that. Just don't really want the insta-travel mechanic.

Fly safe, commander.

Instant travel would be a bad idea. I don't mind a time delay with delivery you could time multiple ship delivery while you slowly make your way there in your current ship.

Still I don't mind buying a sidey now we can plot to a route to the system where my ship is and sell it on arrival.

I'm talking about just transporting your commander, not any of your ships. You would have to buy a ship where you go to, or have one already.
