I have 2 Nvidia GTX 480 graphics cards in my PC. So I am thinking that they will do for VR until pascal cards come out. The GPU socket on the 480 cards are mini HDMi sockets. My question is will the vive connect to mini ports?

You'll need an adapter, since the vive uses full-size hdmi, but connectivity shouldn't be a problem.
Highly suggest you run the steam vr system checker, though. I'd be surprised if even two GTX480s will be anywhere near close to minimum spec. Those are some old, old cards.
