Will we be seeing some different types of container?

Right now, there is only one type and look of a container. So, will we be seeing some variety of containers for different types of cargo?

Would we even want some containers that can only be carried by the larger ships for instance? If these alternate cannisters proposed were not a different size, what else would you change to make them even worthwhile having?

There is more than one look

This is from concept art from a while back.

Cans look quite a bit different now, but you can see that it was always the goal to have different kinds of containers.

Concept for cargo canisters containing my favorite black market commodity.

Code:

I think it is stranger that everything comes in 1 ton units. I mean you trade in some huge machinery that surely would weigh more than one ton per unit. Crop harvesters come to mind.

Wouldn't it be sweet if when a container was destroyed, you could see its cargo spill out. THAT would be such an amazing detail to add to this game.

The unit of trade is not the ton but the cannister. So you have 1 cannister of crop harvesters and 1 cannister of slaves etc.

Admittedly for some of the items that sound as if they could be quite large it makes you think you couldn't even fit one of them in there but that's what we have. Perhaps a crop harvester in the future is not like the hulking things we have now.

In a game called galaxy on fire 2, ABSOLUTELY EVERYTHING weighs 1 ton. All cargo, all weapons, all equipment.

I think we will have more size options for canisters in our holds. If you take a look at the station tubes, there are some warehouses with cranes that have some cylindrical canisters of great size in them. Not sure why they put them there if they aren't transportable somehow. ;)

If you have a bigger cargo hold, it would be much more profitable to transport the huge barrels, as less of your cargo hold would be taken up by canisters instead of actual cargo.

We need the canisters themselves as a trade item!

Even if we did I'm not sure what gameplay purpose it would have. Now if it went along the lines of the larger tradeable goods, such as Crop Harvesters, only being able to fit into a larger container that was twice or four times the size of a regular one, meaning that only the larger ships could carry it then it might make sense.

There could be larger containers over 1 tonne for frigates, destroyers and super-size trade ships like the Panther Clipper which can't dock inside stations.

Some will no doubt cry foul but I like the idea of having cargo containers for larger ships. However it would cause a problem scooping them perhaps if they are dumped overboard as only another larger vessel could receive them.

That would be an advantage for players with large ships and more profit per trade-run. It incentivizes players to use big ships. It would be more difficult to scoop cargo with those.
