Will you be playing Odyssey in Open or Solo?

I'm not sure yet. I like Open but my FPS days are done, yet the Odyssey trailers seem to have focused on FPS pitched battles (Space COD).

My interests in Odyssey are for:

1. Exploration and sightseeing.
2. Interaction with NPC/Storyline (we can hope!)
3. Missions.

Clearly there will be combat, that's OK, but I'm not so keen on having to wade through a PvP pitch battle to get some smokes and pay my bar bill every time I go somewhere popular!

Anyone any thoughts on how the inevitable (and understandable) hi-jinks will be managed so as to preserve some kind of common sense?

Depends how clogged up the atmospheric planets are. Can't remember the exact number we can visit but was it 400 or so? It was less than I expected, so Open will probably be fairly chaotic in early days because of it, especially when people figure out the money meta spots.

I feel like Odyssey Open will always feel a little different to "space Open" just due to how players are concentrated into fewer playable areas.

So does that mean that the tenuous atmos worlds will be the only places we can walk around, or are they the only worlds that will have the missions and interactive settlements?

It was a really brief part of a video and I'm not sure where I saw it. I have no idea if the mission areas are spread between all landable planets, or just the atmospheric ones. I think we'll be able to walk on all landable planets though right? So surely there will be missions to do on those as well. Seems a waste to restrict them to SRVs only, but FD still haven't answered what happens when an Odyssey player on foot meets a Horizons player in an SRV, and that might be because it's not possible.

Well, that's the thing, right there.

If the FPS environments are, basically, "neutral" then I'll be quite happy to explore them in Open, even if that means there's a chance some rando' player might pull a gun and start shooting.
If, OTOH, the only reason to actually visit one of the FPS environments is for a round of "space-deathmatch" then, TBH, I'll probably not bother in any mode.

Honestly, FDev will be getting my money, for Oddassee, but I'm just going to hope it brings some of the stuff I want to have and then I'll just avoid the parts that don't provide what I want.

🤷‍♂️ What difference does it make? You'll rarely if ever find another living soul, so you might as well just play in Open mode since its basically like playing Solo mode 99.9% of the time anyway. For Open mode to really matter, it would have to attract a mega ton more players to even begin to make it feel like a true multiplayer. We're talking tens of thousands of players, with how big the playground is, being as big as our galaxy.

I’m not sure what videos you’ve been watching, but I’ve seen all the stuff FDev have put out so far and never heard the “400” planets mentioned.

They’ve said all currently landable planets + all the new tenuous planets will be walkable. The only restrictions I have heard is that on-foot NPCs will only be at mission-based locations, and PvP will be everywhere apart from the social areas.

Playing in Open pretty much exclusively, and I doubt this will change in Odyssey.

As was mentioned already, apart from a handful of systems the experience between both modes are pretty much the same - remains to be seen to what extent FDev choose to funnel players into MP hotspots (such as via CGs, or engineer bases or their Odyssey equivalents).

I'd say running into other players while on foot will be even less probable than it is now since players are spread across even more locations (such as several locations on a single planet).

Wait until we know if the suit / weapon engineers are planet based ;)
As an upside I'd guess that Deciat & Shin Dez would become safe in open for everyone :ROFLMAO:
