Willard going rouge at freeport

Shamelessly robbed from another site :)

Haha! Thanks for the responses, how embarrassing. I rushed that post.

Anyway, in genuine praise of Cmdr. Willard - I had a great time scooping up the spoils from at at least 2 wrecked Lakons.

Willard killed me once as I screamed out of Freeport without a docking permission (at this time there were many Gold and other high-price canisters floating around). After a quick Ctrl-Alt-Del - in the second instance the gold was gone, but a nervous looking Hauler joined me in the greedy scooping.

I had just sold all my hardware in anticipation of buying a Lakon at Freeport but had to tool up again when I saw Willard shields go down. Not sure who came to the rescue but nicely done, thanks!

My best moment to date. Thanks Cmdr. Willard! :D

Well, I certainly didn't meet this Willard guy, but today on one of my approachs to Aulin Enterprise I saw a commander with his wepons out. Turns out that is was an Anaconda with 4 rail guns and 4 pulse lasers hunting Space Cows and he was wanted, too. Well, I set my Cobra up, deployed my 4 lasers and worked on his shields. After those were down I got some help from someone firing missiles, even though the hull indicator was somewhat damaged, as the Anaconda didn't lose hull strenght in it. Anyway, after wailing on it with lasers and staying away from the front it finally popped and I was 175,000 credits richer. Bounty hunting can be quite lucrative at times and I saved one of the two Space Cows, too.

Somehow I also got a small bounty on my head during the whole skirmish and a corrupt (read wanted) Federation cop was thinking it was a good idea to be the law. Well, another small bounty there, a landing and a payout of 113 credits later I was off to my usual trading again.

Hey Schnittertm that was me! I loved that so much, it was the game working how it actually should. Pirate attacking traders, bounty hunters attacking the pirate - I just wish more people played the game like that.

Shooting people as they leave a station isn't piracy. Some people here really need to read up on the histories, or at least look at a dictionary!

The Pirates (of the 17th Century) had a Code of Honour as well as rules to which they adhered to. One such rules was that you don't kill your source of income, you took their gold/cargo and let them run away.

Not only did this allow you to raid them again, but it also spread your reputation as a feared pirate.

The Captain of the pirate ship didn't always get to decide who to attack or who got what spoils from the raids! That was down to the Quartermaster.

What you've not been told is I cargo scan Lakons, then fire a warning shot (usually I miss, the Lakons have massive hitboxes so sometimes I hit them by accident) and pause to give them time to drop some cargo. That's the closest we can get to indicating our piratical intentions without comms. Plus I bet when we do have comms most people will still try to run or fight instead of dropping a few canisters.

I have a new policy now though: I try not to destroy my target, but if I can't destroy the cargo hold (or I do but it drops nothing), then I damage them as much as I feel safe doing without them blowing up. The idea is that the repair costs will exceed the loss they would have made by dropping a few cargo canisters. The hope is that maybe next time they'll just drop the cargo.

Well, thank you for amassing that bounty then, it certainly will help me on my way to a Space Cow, and Anaconda after that, for myself. If you'd have hit me even once with your 4 Railguns I probably would have popped, so it got my heart pumping after I saw 4 blue streaks coming out of your bow. Then again, the insurance would have been easily covered even at that point, though 36 freight canisters of tea would have been lost.

Maybe we'll meet up again and have another bout or just a friendly chat (in standard beta 1 with coms?) or I'll be in my Space Cow by then and drop a bit of cargo for you.

May I suggest you do it away from the stations then.

Rather than shooting a sitting duck, add something to your gameplay and make it more of a challenge to yourself!

Surely it is more rewarding to do this sort of thing where you actually have to work at it rather than sitting on your ar$e and go 'pew pew' at people?

It's still work and you can't do it away from a station. I mean where do you think traders are going to be trading? Besides, no one wants to give up their cargo. It's either a fight or a chase every time. Only one person has ever jettisoned cargo.
