Win 10 - 1803 update

I installed it on Tuesday on my PC and it works nicely with the Rift, in particular after upgrading the NVidia drivers to the latest version. Had to update the ASUS AISuite, for it stopped working. The update failed twice with a BSOD on my laptop, though. Trying for the third time now :(

1803 is in fact a Windows reinstall and has some side effects not seen in previous updates. For instance, the 500mb recovery partition suddenly appeared as drive G: with 50mb free space left, leading to nasty complaints about the drive being full. Had to use powershell to get rid of that. And I would double-check my privacy settings. And 1803 doesn't contain the Spectre V2 fixes anymore. No problem, as they found 8 new comparable flaws this week...

That's why I never allow the twice yearly feature updates to install on their own. I unplug all drives apart from c: erase/recreate the partitions on that, and then run a brand new install.

AI Suite stopped working? What a surprise...

Installed it within an hour of release. Took an hour and ten mins from beginning of download to full reboot. Installed new AMD Radeon drivers after that. No problems at all. In fact my PC boots much quicker than before. Elite runs great in VR, don't know about other games though. Hope this helps.

Oh god not again. 1803 is downloading as I type. Were you running AISuite 3 v3.00.13 / DIP5 version 1.05.14? That's what I'm on. Just noticed a new BIOS for my board so hopefully that will make things smoother.

I forgot to mention the BIOS update (Version 1301, ROG STRIX 270H), AISuite/DIP is 3.0.13/1.05.14 and that one runs fine. Simply installed it over the old version (the beta one that was released after the Spectre fixed, don't recall the version number anymore). Oh, and I'm at the 4th attempt at installing 1803 on my laptop, this time I wrote down the offending driver (SGdrv64.sys) and uninstalled the software device associated with it (think it's a leftover from some game's copy protection), let's hope for the best :D

EDIT: 4th installation attempt: no BSOD this time, but suddenly froze @53%. Restart, "Trying to restore the previous version of Windows". Dang!

EDIT2: Another day, feeling lucky...now the Media Creation Tool will hopefully fix this mess!

EDIT3: No it doesn't. Up to 1709, no problems at all. 1803 is not ready for prime time, I guess. Giving up now.

After a complete freeze on the first restart, 1803 has installed fine and so far working well. Even Windows Spotlight works now! And AI Suite is behaving itself for once :) Will be interesting to see if my "start button doesn't work after monitor resumes from sleep" issue has been fixed.

Been having no joy with this one myself, both myself and my mate are running Win10 Pro N build 1709 and 1803 just doesn't work for us. It installs, requries a reboot, then "restores previous version of Windows" and seems to justl oop like this. After trying three times each we just gave up until Microsoft sorts its act out (some humour there)

Installed yesterday without problem using the update tool. After update HOTAS wasn't working anymore, I reinstalled the drivers manually because the logitech setup wasn't working. No other issue toreport for the moment

Fresh install of 1803 completed and most things seem to be OK. No problems with AI Suite either, but again a clean install of the latest build. Only major problem at the moment is that I can't reconnect the PC to Windows Server 2016 using the Essentials Connector software. Microsoft seem to manage to break that with every Feature update so hopefully a fix won't too long coming.

Oh and most important, Oculus and Elite still work just fine! :D

Using a HP windows mixed reality headset, the 0803 update was great! Controller tracking is now completely steady, even behind my back. The update also brought controller rumble in steam games, better performance, and a new launch environment. Only problem was having to reinstall graphics drivers (Radeon RX 480).

The update resets and turns on ‘Fast boot’. This setting can cause problems at start up for some hardware, such as my X52pro which doesn’t start up correctly with fast boot switched on.
Hence I always let the computer boot up in sequence not using fast boot.

If anyone wants to turn fast boot off.....

 1. – Head to the Control Panel and click on Power Options
 2. – Click the link of the left-hand side ‘Choose what the power buttons do’
 3. – Click the ‘Change settings currently unavailable’ line
 4. – Tick the ‘Turn off fast start-up’ box under Shut-down settings

I do have problems with changing settings in Win "game controller" panel. Expirencing huge lags there. Also any software realted to "steering whell" lags when changing settings. Looks like a driver problems but there no newest.

Are you on PC ? If so try this....
There is a way to keep all your usb’s ports powered up To The Max at all times. Windows default settings likes to power them down when it thinks appropriate. Let me have a look for that...
this could be causing your lag....possibly

a. Click on start button.
b. In the search box type devmgmt.msc and then press enter. (Device manager)
c. Navigate down to Universal Serial Bus controllers.
d. On each USB Root Hub item, right-click and choose Properties.
e. Click on the Power Management tab and un-check the box for Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power.

Thanks a lot. Reproduced already your steps for each USB and 5~6 sec. lags is still there, but reponse time is a bit quicker than before. It's seems to be Winfows 1803 itself. Just clicking "games controller" icon (in Device & Printers tab) and waiting too long for response. Also my power mgt. plan is set for "high performance" without exceptions. Waiting for M$ fix, maybe one of my device drivers (x52 pro or T500 RS) genereting issues.

No worries Yata, it’s worth trying everything! And keeping the USB ports on isn’t a bad thing. I’m still experiencing minor (and for no reason) frame drops periodically myself.
Is your X52 pro plugged into a USB2 port? They don’t like USB3 and strangeness occurs therein.

I wish I'd deferred. Voice Attack has stopped working for me. I tried to retrain the speech to text but it's refusing to run the microphone wizard

Hey frank, In this update Windows automaticly turns off permissions for this. It’s a case of going into settings and allowing the microphone to run. Hold on, I’ll get info !

There's a microphone privacy options page. The latest insider's update has it blocking all apps by default.

 1. Hit Windows key and search for "microphone privacy settings"
 2. Hit "Allow access to the microphone on this device"
 3. Switch "Allow apps to access your microphone" to on
