Hardware & Technical Win 10 Creator Update - MS Says Don't Install It.

Well it automatically notified me to install it a couple of weeks back. I did, and nothing bad happened. I play ED on it too, but ED being borked has nothing to do with Win10 Creator's Update.... it's the 2.3 update :D

So far running alright on three machines, only thing that carped were the first two April releases of AMD drivers and outdated Checkpoint VPN software.

But hey, they have 18 months to make it work :D

Oh yes, because they give us the choice to not update? Right? right?

Oh, wait...

No, they don't...

And this is why I have to hack files to give me the choice to update when I am good and ready...
Z...

If you read the article, it doesn't quite say what the OP reads into it.

Microsoft are advising to not install the update manually, but wait for it to come through automatic update so you don't bypass system compatibility checks.

Can you please either explain how to do that or link me to a place that explains it?

If you do I'll send you some honey from my beehive.

It updated itself last week for me, whether I wanted it or not.

In the process it changed my desktop, deleted some shortcuts, changed my sound settings so the default sound output device was wrong and wouldn't work, and changed some other settings (at least that I've noticed so far). It also added ads to my menu, and some lame mail icon to my taskbar that I had to remove.

I'm not a fan of Windows new update system. At all.

What we do for our monitoring machines is disable the Windows Update service itself. Then we turn it on when we know we can run updates safely.

Huh? I didn't read anything into it at all. I literally quoted (that chunk of text in quotes) the first paragraph of the article and gave the article link to not bias anything. [wacko]

As for the fake news comment, The Register is one of the most respected IT sites in the UK.

… and in the process, you omitted the detail that this is about manual installation. Sometimes, the parts past the abstract are important yo :)

"Microsoft has urged non-tech-savvy people – or anyone who wants a stable computer – to not download and install the biggest revision to Windows this year. And that's because it may well bork your machine."

Last I checked they are saying do not use the separately manually instalable downloadable upgrade version, but wait for the 'proper' version which will automatically download for your windows 10 version (meaning it has proper driver and such support) when it is ready.
That really is what holds back the updates, drivers and such being verified, forcing the install, basically means you are using unverified stuff.

You copied click-bait without reading the article at all, well that sure is a good way to spread information, not reading it and spreading the headlines, i'm sure that doesn't lead to the spread of misinformation, seriously, own up, you fumbled the ball.

I read it. It sounded interesting and so I posted it without comment or bias. Basically, if I had said anything I would have been accused of being a troll or fanboy, so I said nothing and got criticised for it regardless. Something about killing the messanger.

Anything you read into that article is in YOUR head, not mine. Good day sir.

Updated a few week back and the creator's update (minus the need to go and de-bloat all the apps again) seems to be running pretty darn smooth on my machine, I cannot speak for the issues specific to ED 2.x update I have had no stuttering what so ever running it on hardware from a couple years back on AMD's latest driver set. Which I believe is needed 'acroding to AMD' after installing the "Creators Update"

I run the title fairly maxed out with the upscaled resolution to 1.5x. For those interested, I encourage all windows users to head on over to Vipers website and configure thier services for reduced system load and smoother operation.

Creators Update re-enables Teredo without telling you, and also puts back all those ghastly "social" apps that deserve a nasty end.

The Register is really not a click-baity news source.

I have no problems at all. It even gave me 50% more fps. ( Well... I removed some old stuff, that might have boosted it.. )
