Just been reading this article in Engadget about how Microsoft will be releasing soon a high performance gaming mode for windows 10 and Xbox. Sounds good to me...

Wonder if it will increase the base read/write speed of the os which last i tested was slower than win 7 it's why i never switched.

5-10% increase due to it disabling background services you don't need while playing. Har har.

Yep & it will be things you Realy want running Like Firewall & Antivirus Programs That wernt bought from there store

AFAIK there aren't any details available yet.

BTW Windows Firewall and Antivirus are perfectly sufficient.

Yeah... I'll trust Microsoft with this sort of thing once they fix the years old compulsory bug in Windows Games Explorer where rundll32.exe runs indefinitely, loads up your CPU, and in effect won't let you launch certain games without hasplms.exe having internet access, regardless of whether or not you even use Windows Games Explorer.

Wait... No I won't.

"This mode should help both legacy Windows games (Win32) and modern titles (UWP)" So it won't help at all as no one is buying uwp games and UWP games perform much worse than non UWP version of same game, one more attempt to get us buy games from Microsoft store. And because this is Microsoft this "gaming mode" will probably also shut down your useful background programs like steam, VR headsets, software for keyboards/mouses, video capturing software, ts/discord etc. Microsoft doesn't know what is important for the end user.

Also it's possible that you can chose which software gets shut down, if any process gets closed in the first place.

You really think Microsoft is going to improve win32 anymore when they have stated they will use UWP with win 10 and want to remove win32 at some point. Its their path to get people to their own store.

I'm guessing people are remembering this.

While I'm happy to believe MS would love to restrict people to using the Windows store ONLY I do think it's a way off. If only because they failed to give it away (even by force on occasions) in sufficient quantities.
