Windows 10 + Oculus Rift DK1 has anybody successfully set this up?

I've been trying various things literally all day. things I've tried:

at the moment I can get the rift to act like an extended monitor when using the 0.5 runtime but the config utility is unable to detect the service. the rift doesn't work for anything in this mode. When using the 0.8 runtime I can get the demo scene to load and VR desktop works but it won't run in extended mode and elite can't detect it.

Throughout the course of troubleshooting at one point I did get ED to recognize my DK1, but I could not get the rift to display anything on the screen.

If anyone has any suggestions I am all ears.

I have tried for about 3 hours with various tricks (mainly around running service in admin mode with Win8 compatability mode). Nothing I have tried works. Anyone point me to a guide I'd be most happy

If you are running windows 10 you have to run the Oculus 0.8 runtime. Then if you want to use 0.5 to run in extended mode you need to install the switcher. There are tons of posts on here in regards to this subject just do some searching most are fairly recent and should be on the first 2 pages of this forum. If your system is good enough forget 0.5 and simply run on Win 10 and 0.8 direct. Install Steam VR once then do not use it just launch from the ED launcher for Horizons on your desktop. Get a HOTAS and voice attack and don't look back.

Edit: By the way the original question on here was about getting DK1 to work which I am not familiar with at all.

Raptoid, thanks for the suggestions, will take a look at steamVR with 0.8.
