Hardware & Technical Windows 10 reinstall

I may have to reinstall Windows 10. How will this affect ED? It's currently on a non-o/s drive i.e. D: not C:

Can I just copy the game to an external, removable drive then copy it back after the clean wipe?

Or do I need to reinstall the game? What will happen to my binds and HUD colours?

I'm making the assumption that my current game status is all saved server side.

Many thanks!

You should reinstall the game to get all the shortcuts back and insure the game's prerequisites have been installed, but if you install it to the same location, it won't need to redownload everything, it will just validate your old files.

Your CMDR is saved server side, but binds, options, custom settings, etc, are local. You will have to back up your profile folder that contains these things. This will almost always be "%AppData%\Local\Frontier Developments\Elite Dangerous".

As well as your binds (and other options) that are in the directory structure Morbad has given (%LOCALAPPDATA%\Frontier Developments\Elite Dangerous\Options\ )...

You should copy your journal files (and logs) from %USERPROFILE%\Saved Games\Frontier Developments\Elite Dangerous\ that way your history of activities, progress, travels etc is retained for you to have access to (although your actual status, progress, etc. is saved server-side).

If you have EDDiscovery installed then you might want to copy its data too.

If Elite dangerous was native to Linux I would move to that in any case moving to Linux specifics is an objective.
I am considering trying a MacBook to test a theory that other mac users in public space are more likely to interact with you than if you use a windows laptop.
I have noticed this phenomenon also in parks with dog owner, but as yet to try validate it myself.

If anyone has ask what has mac users and dog owners got to do with one another, or why a apparently unrelated Op triggers the following response then read Douglas Adams for some enlightenment.
