Windows 11 24H2 crashes Elite Dangerous if E:D loses screen focus

Elite Dangerous has been crashing on me every time I switch focus to the desktop or another app. Reverting to Windows 11 23H2 fixed the issue.

The crash would change the video output to green, and would crash all the way out to the crash report to Frontier window.

Microsoft has reported an issue with 24H2 and software using the "Easy Anti-cheat" software so something similar might be happening here.

that should help others with the same problem.......
whilst your solution is hardly ideal nice work reporting it nonetheless(y)
i would have tried switching from fullscreen mode to windowed and deleting the gpuworktable.xml in the products folder for any effect
before reverting windows

No problems here on 24H2.
I use windowed mode, and can switch between Firefox (inara), Materials Helper and Elite without problems.

Try borderless mode? No issues here.
If you get issue were mouse goes out of the game screen try Borderless Gaming's mouse lock feature.

Elite does not use Easy Anti-cheat and it should not be running when game using it is not running.

Here is a source. Cause that is very much lacking with your post:

"Microsoft is working with Easy Anti-Cheat on an incompatibility issue between Window 11, version 24H2 and the Easy Anti-Cheat application. This software is automatically installed with some games as part of security and cheat-prevention measures used in multiplayer online PC games. Only devices with Intel’s Alder Lake+ processors and vPro platform are affected. ... To safeguard your update experience, we have applied a compatibility hold on devices running the incompatible Easy Anti-Cheat drivers. These devices will not be offered to install Windows 11, version 24H2 via the Windows Update release channel ...

Important: We recommend that you do not attempt to manually update to version 24H2 using the Windows 11 Installation Assistant or the media creation tool until this issue has been resolved.

Resolution: Updating your games might help address this issue, depending on whether a compatible version of Easy Anti-Cheat is also included in the game’s update.

On my AMD Ryzen 7 3800X/Radeon RX 6750 system I've been experiencing similar screen freezes after alt-tabbing back to the game. Sometimes if I alt-tab to another app and back to ED I manage to save the session without CTD, sometimes it crashes. On rare occasions, ED screen stays frozen, I get the watchdog prompt to report the crash to FDev, but further alt-tabbing restores the game functionality. In every case, I still get game sound, but keyboard is not responding and screen is frozen.

I'm on 24H2, too, with Adrenalin 24.10.1 drivers. I just updated those to 24.12.1 and will see how it goes.
I don't believe it is specifically caused by 24H2, because my system's symptoms didn't start immediately after upgrading, I mostly noticed it after I got to the 24.10.1 drivers (I think).

Three crashes in an hour.
It used to do it transitioning from SRV to foot, but now does it when it feels like it.
Just did an unaided docking at Tanner Orbital, pad 26 with a Fer De Lance so bit of aerobatics involved.
As soon as IO touched the pad....
Rejoined game and Im out in space...

As for the Easy Anticheat, they may have finally done an update for HLL as there was plenty of ESP in use, buit as usual ,a snippet of code may be deemed naughty ( Hence why I gave up on Norton AV)

Upgrading graphics drivers to 24.12.1 didn't improve the situation, I still get freezes. But if it's caused by the Easy Anti-Cheat + 24H2, it's not specific to those Intel models.

a pontential freezez fix here post 5 which has nowt to do with gpu to be aware of
