Hardware & Technical windows 11 report

the beta came out today. To get it, you have to sign up for Windows Insider and then join the Dev ring. You can do it all from within Windows Settings Update/Recovery (look on bottom of the left).

I did an in-place upgrade ... it seems to have gone without a hitch, all my settings and applications were kept in place and so far everything seems to working. The only problem I had was my ethernet adapter, though it appeared as working in Device Manager, could not get an IP address, but uninstalling and reinstalling it seems to have fixed the problem without a reboot.

Only had this installed for a couple of hours, but so far the biggest thing I can say is ... looks like Mac OS :D

PS I did enable my TPM chip in BIOS based on the early reading, though apparently if you join the dev ring it isn't required yet.

Looks like a lemon with a lot of hardware not supported, CPU especially.
The leaked version is pretty much Win10 compatible the actual version won't be.
If you're smart you'll be on 10 for the next 4/5 years.

well, someone's gotta test it out I suppose. Less buggy than Odyssey alpha(beta) :D I'm half joking with that last comment, but actually now that I think about it...

maybe MS finally decided to wise up and stop trying to support the last decade of hardware with each new OS. Hanging onto the legacy has held them back in some ways. Pure speculation on my part. But as long as they keep the Windows 10 updates going for the next 4 or 5 years, other than maybe the direct storage and auto HDR features there may not be a big reason to change. Just get it with new PCs I suppose. No big deal.

It does feel kind of quick for a new version. I thought they said windows 10 would be the last version ever :D Though, the upgrade path on the beta was really very simple, it played out just like a regular Windows feature update. The UI has been refreshed but I'm not seeing major, significant changes quite yet. Even the task bar being centered can be changed back to left-side with a simple options change. There's a real lovely Dark theme included.

I was originally told that Windows 10 was going to be the last version of Windows and they M$ was going to just update it to infinity...and beyond.
