To continue focus on providing the best experience for the more commonly used systems, we will no longer be testing Windows 7 compatibility for any future Elite Dangerous updates. As a result, we cannot guarantee future updates or compatibility for Windows 7 users.

Good luck with the backlash. When I stopped supporting Windows 7 for EDMC there was quite the wailing and gnashing of teeth from a vocal minority.

Microsoft support for Windows 7 ended over two years ago, Windows 10 runs fine here on a 9 year old notebook, a 8 year old workstation, a 14 year old gaming PC and a 6 year old gaming PC that is still my main rig (with a recently added not quite so old 3080ti), there really is no reason to cling onto Windows 7.

If done right, this could solve a lot of Odyssey performance issues. The main advantage of DX12 over DX11 is better CPU multithreading, and ED could use that. In ground settlements I get CPU bottlenecked, but have only around 50% load on the CPU, which has 8 cores and HT.

That's actually a good idea to check what version of windows steam proton simulates currently.
In case of any troubles.

When it required manual customization in older days I remember it used windows 7.
