Windows 7 upgrade to Windows 10, is it worth it?

i tried the free upgrade and then went back. First off i had trouble with ED in supercruise. Also i did a read/write test on the SDD it was slower in 10. That on top of the 3+ pages of tracking garbage you need to disable was all i needed to revert back to 7.

No it doesn't, since Elite doesn't support Dx12.
Currently I do not recommend upgrade to Win10 for Elite dedicated PC, maybe after ~6 months..

If everything works, do not try to break it ;)

I've been on windows 10 since the early releases. It is quite stable now however there is a annoying bug with supercruise when using AMD graphics. It is a driver issue that AMD looks to be addressing. The is the only issue I have seen that has caused me any real grief.

So wait to upgrade if you don't want to take the plunge yet....but remember the free upgrade ends 1 year after release so upgrade before July 2016(July 29th was the release date)

I am just a "basic" win user (i mean, i do not know anything about the system, i just turn it on/off and play games :p) and i upgraded to win 10 from win 7 months ago (i do not remeber when).
I did not find any problem, issue or whatever. Everything runs smoothly, fast loading, no crashes.

I can imagine they gave the update for free for some reason, mainly getting our informations, but i really do not know how to stop that so i gave up and accepted the unavoidable: Microsoft is stealing my data.

That said, IMHO, from a basic user point of view, Win10 works perfectly.

But maybe if all the sheeple had read the info all over the Internet and told MS where to stick their upate it might have forced a rethink. The thing that scared me the most was the evidence that MS was able to push updates and make major configuration changes to the OS without any input or permission from the user. Such as only having the ability to install Win 10 and all other updates unavailable for example. How can you guarantee that a future Win 10 update won't disable privacy settings, whether by accident or design? I never thought I would say this, but I wish FD would do a Linux port because I would probably not need Windows again. Windows 7 was/is probably the best version and why they had to change it I have absolutely no idea.

Yes, apart from privacy issues (and they steal this data anyway in older versin too, most likely...), main problem is "updates that user cannot disable". It means that PC is no longer yours, it is owned by microsoft. It can be used to test some new features or may be broken at their will. And you cannot avoid it... you just turn on you PC, see "please wait" and then BSOD, and have "some nice time" fixing things instead of playing elite...
Spent half of the day today trying to fix Tegra3/WinRT tablet which decided to install some updates and refused to boot after that...

You can always just wait until just before the free upgrade deadline and decide then. It's the most sensible thing to do anyway.

W10 is the dogs nutz. Ive been mesisng about with it for a while now. Would I go back to 7? No looks dated and is slower for me. Would I go back to 8.1. Only if MS start firing ads on my desktop at a later date.
Oh and privacy.. hehe you do all know the internet doesn't have privacy anymore. ISP trackers, website logs, email logs all held by Google, MS, and your friendly ISP

@hurricane
I had that problem. if you have another hard drive connected when you install 10. (I did mine from a downloaded iso from Microsoft). unplug it and plug it in after the install is complete. seemed to work for me. good luck if you try again.

you know what commander,i may well try it again,i had a usb flash drive plugged in every time I re tried it?...you think it will be all good if I try it with no other drives attatched?...I thought it was great system,x52 pro worked,ps4 still bluetoothed to the pc,but its that second boot.all falls apart from there.

ill try again ,I can always go back to 8.1 lol
