Windows 8 and Install Isse

Hey guys sorry if this has been asked before.
Just got a new laptop and am looking to put Elite on it but when I download the install files from My Account page and try to run on windows 8 it asks me what application I would like to open the file with - any ideas?

Yeah the issue seems to be that no .exe (file extension) seems to be visible???
Other downloaded files in my download directory show the .exe file extension but Elite doesn't ???

Are you talking about the Client-Installer.EXE file (ie the launcher installer?

Either you are downloading the wrong file or the file extension is being changed by your browser/av/win 8 (the former seems more likely tbh).

What is the full name of the file you are trying to open and what browser are you using?

Are you going to My Downloadable Products page from My Account?

Yes I am going to the downloadable page in my account, icon on right hand side of the wording for Elite Dangerous
It says that it is downloading but when I go to start the installation it pops up with this message saying what application would I like to use.
when I open then downloaded folder and look at the file it doesn't show as a .exe as other files do in the folder?
perhaps the browser is changing/stripping the file extension as you say...

I will have a play with a different browser when I get home later

wow, so got home, opened up chrome and started download - it worked fine !!
So with Windows 8 and IE the install .exe file was not working, use chrome and it has worked perfectly
