Wing invites - Sort out the basics before introducing console kiddy updates

<rant>

I don't normally rant about ED as I think it is such a good game. However after 10 mins trying to group up with a friend, in both private groups and open and having absolutely no success whatsoever I do feel moved to rant.

How about sorting out the fundamental basics of an on-line game before introducing console kiddy pvp zones that probably only 2% of the player base (official stat pulled from the hole between my gluteus maximus), give a ^*$% about?

Here's the thing - My main home is on a little island called Bahrain out in the Persian Gulf. My internet connection (wifi) with Mena telecom is 20mb and I have never had an issue joining up with friends in private or in open in ED or GTA (except back in Beta) many of those people I fly with are on this forum.

Switch to my home in London with Virgin media 50mb connection (Fibre optic) - Constant disconnects in ED and could never stay in a instance for more than a few minutes in GTA until I copied my router settings from Bahrain.

Not saying ED doesn't have issues, billion $ rockstar games is even worse than ED at the best of times. Still.. check your settings before going on a rant..

There is a topic somewhere on here about the correct router settings you need.

so you insult everyone who plays elite on the xbox one because you havnt worked out how to get your friends into a wing?

even though there are plenty of people from the xbox who post in this forum, you still cling to an inaccurate stereotype?

you know something.... from what i have seen in game and on this forum,

xbox players are a far nicer bunch to interact with than some of the PC players who post on here.

While I do find OP's phrasing of things a little inconsiderate, but FD did betray PC players/backers by the way they are introducing the game to console players, so the frustration isn't unreasonable, either.

Issue is, OP thinks that even the cleaner writes the network code (waits for a cleaner would have done better job sarcastic comment), IMO the only betrayal was the exclusive, but now we get CQC around the same time. :D

I play through a wifi connection via a phone, over a weak-signal phone network. Costs me well over a quid per Gig. I'm on the arabian peninsula like 777Driver, but in a more remote location, and I get excited when I get 200k.

Wings works passably for me OK.

(Pretty well nothing else does tho.!)

By introducing CQC to Xbox to beta test first? Can't say I feel betrayed over that. CQC is going to be a fun additional game mode, but even as a backer no objection to letting the xboxers be the beta testers on that one. It is really more aimed at them anyway.

Console kiddy updates?

Elite seems to have a more mature audience than most games but the more I read the forums the more it becomes abundantly clear that for many of them mature only refers to chronological age and nothing else...

sorry, but i dont see the betrayal.

to use an analogy,

it would be like a mother bird going out to find food for her babies
she flies back to the nest to feed them, but one of the chicks
feels betrayed because the mother decided to share the food around
rather than giving it all to that one chick first.

ED has a 10 year life span

we are still only in year one of release.

if at the end of the games life the things you were promised have not been delivered
then yeah, betrayal might be the correct term to use,

but not at this stage. not so early on.

i hope when CQC comes out that PC players get into it and enjoy it.

i am also fairly sure that in time we will ALL have benefitted from the
pooled resources and development which everyone contributed to.

Nevertheless they went back on their word about everything coming to PC first.

I get that they need to use the PR crap saying that "it's more suitable for console," but seriously, even a blind person know it's the money Microsoft is stuffing down FD's underwear as it dances around a pole.

Today, we're thrilled to say we're bringing CQC to PC and Mac the same day as the full Xbox One release.

Damn you for your betrayal FD... I just get so... wait what now... erm... what am I angry about again? Oh yes the betrayal thing... now I'm just confused...

Yeah, right now Xbox One needs some help against the PS4. I wouldn't be surprised if something like a back scratching event lead them to do that. Either way its not like CQC is exclusive to just the Xbox. And to the OP... console kiddy? What are you a PC neck beard basement dweller?(/sarcasim)

But we can forgive, right? We are human?

Read my previous post. Lying is lying, there's no way around it. Everything didn't come to PC first, and if they're doing this now, who knows what more they'll do with the next nine years.

Let me make an analogy, as well:

I'm waiting in a line to get food in the morning for quite a long time already. An entire bus full of people walk into the building, all of them shoving me out of the way and order their food before me. When I protest, the cashier tells me to wait.

Out of courtesy, I stand aside.

When I finally reach the cashier, I inquire as to why did that entire bus full of people cut in front of me.

The cashier answers:

"Duh, they are giving us more money."

To that I will smile, tell the cashier to get their manager to talk to me, confirm that it is indeed how the business runs.

Then I shall proceed to erect my middle-finger, spill/toss whatever I have in my hand at the manager, and walk out.

What a ridiculous thing to say.
What a ridiculous reply that has no intention to support its argument.

Yes, the terrible betrayal of allowing Mac and XBox players use the same release on the same day! A non-storm in a teacup.

Oh, and rep plus one million for the "Merciful Release" avatar... :D

Can I just ask where they said that everything would come to PC first? I'm not saying they didn't just that I never saw it and would be genuinely interested if you could show me as I would like to read that.

I remember them saying things like the PC would be the main focus and the main development platform but never saw anything about exclusivity.

The problem is how they first announced the issue, it provides the aura that they give no crap about people that supported them and intended to go back on their word.
