Wing Missions - community suggestions!

Right, so we're apparently getting the Wing Missions sometime soon (TM?). Let's come up with some ideas of what would be good and fun wing missions - hoping that Frontier will find some inspiration here :)

Let's keep it real and bear in mind the existing game mechanics and constraints.

Let's also try and come up with some interesting ideas rather than simple "more powerful ships to kill so that you need a wing to cope" stuff.

Couple of ideas from me. Basically I'm trying to think about stuff you can actually DO in the game, but adjust it so that you HAVE to have more than 1 ship operating to complete it.

1) Shutting down a base by destroying the main generator and the emergency generator. They both have to be destroyed within 10 seconds of each other, otherwise the power comes back up.
2) Smuggle in (or deliver) 2 (or more) lots of cargo within 5 mins of each other.
3) Scan 2 (or more) data points at the same time on a damaged Mega Ship to decrypt log files.
4) Competing passenger missions. 2 (or more) guys made a bet who gets first from station A to B. Each Cmdr gets 1 passenger on board and the one that delivers theirs first takes the full mission payout.

1. Instance Together - All Wing Ships have to appear in the same instance, at the same time and be visible to each other. Difficulty: Nigh Impossible

2. Nav Lock Together - 3 of 4 Wing Mates must Nav Lock to the first and the wing must then travel together. Difficulty: #1 is Easier

3. Follow Instructions - All Wing Members must receive and follow the same instructions. Difficulty: Impossible

"And that concludes Wing Mission Training."

I'm going to wager these will be 90%+ Combat Missions.

Escorting convoys - eg: Trying to get as many (NPC) ships from A to B through an asteroid field as possible.

Attacking convoys - eg: Trying to destroy as many (NPC) ships as possible.

Ship defense - eg: Defending a VIP (NPC) ship while it undergoes repair.

Ship attack - eg: Attacking a VIP (NPC) ship while it undergoes repair.

Adding these sort of mechanics means for non-wing specific gameplay:-
- They can be leveraged for general PvE gameplay (eg: provide a couple of NPC wingmen who you can give attack this/defend that commands to).
- Can be leveraged for PvP with now CMDRs playing on both sides of the "mission".
- They can be leveraged for Powerplay mechanics.
- They can be leveraged for CG mechanics.

My fear? Wing missions is simply a means of paying out CRs across a Wing for existing missions with an enemy multiplayier added. eg: More/stronger NPCs according to Wing size.

I will be amazed if they're not just exactly what we have now, except a ship flying with a trader gets a bigger bonus/full mission reward for protecting them en route. Same for other activities.

Well that is exactly why I've created this thread - in hopes the developers look at it and see some potential ideas from the community that can be implemented in Beyond.

Mining - Mine a special asteroid that takes longer than normal to mine and deliver the refined resources. Other mining teams (NPCs) will be attempting to do the same.

Delivery - Deliver a large quantity of a commodity (would require a couple cargo ships) to a station, with a high probability of being interdicted.

Hostile Ground Forces - Eliminate a large hostile ground force, that might have air support.

Escape Pod Recovery - Slavers have attacked a convoy. Drop in, eliminate the slavers, recover and return the escape pods.

Head to Lhs 3447, destroy 10 player ships. Mission details: must be a full wing of top end warships, the more heavily engineered the better. These actions might be considered griefing, enemy ships MAY be sent against you.
Lul.

Robbing a bank mission.

Some how structure a mission like a bank job... the ambush, the hold up, the swag grab, and the get away.

(this can be accomplished on surfaces as well... facility Heists - Gold storage etc)

TBH, the new mining mechanics should surely embrace wing/co-op gameplay?

I'd like to see missions planetside requiring a combined arms approach to complete - a mix of ships in ground attack mode plus SRVs.

How about every mission we have now, being fully supported as a "wing" mission, for a start?

You know, like, say you have taken a mission, someone joins you wing, you go to your transactions tab, and select "Share mission with wing" on the one you wanna share, and they get the mission too, and then everything actually works, and doesn't break.

Protect a low ranked NPC or a person of importance in a CZ: The Wing jumps in and picks a side. Then have to look for the NPC who spawns afterwards.
The NPC has to be protected while they stupidly engage a range of foes who outclass them or while hordes of NPC try to blast them into so much Rail gun shrapnel.
Mayhem ensues.

Then the NPC gets bored or recalled and jumps out.

Mission complete.

Love the thread and the ideas you put in the OP. I've done several similar 'missions ideas' threads before with the same hope as you - that FDev somehow takes an interest in designing some actual engaging gameplay.

Similarly to your 'simultaneous activities' missions, you could have missions where some of the Wing have to use SRVs to accomplish tasks on the ground while the rest have to defend from large air attack.

You could also have scenarios requiring part of the wing to maintain attack on certain parts of an outpost (generator/whatever), drawing enemies towards them and allowing an SRV to go in and do something (steal data/plant explosives/virus/whatever) at another part of the base.

However unfortunately unless FDev is planning a big general addition of new mission design and archetypes I don't see anything this interesting happening. It seems to me there's very little chance of them adding lots of new mechanics to enable interesting missions for Wings without adding those mechanics for SP missions too.
...and currently I've heard absolutely nothing about that, so my hopes aren't high.

Never give up the fight!

Another idea, following Beta:

Megaships wing mission, where a player has to hack the megaship / steal some cargo, disable the defences and fend off the security forces within some time limit. I know we can already do that, but a shared mission with some rewards would be really cool.
