Wing waggled by a spitfire in real life today. Wow moment!

I was flying past Duxford today, and passed a spitfire going the other way, as we were not on the same radio frequency, I rocked my wings from side to side, meaning hello, and have you seen me? (also known as a wing waggle) and he waggled back. It was one of those WOW moments. Wish I got a photo of that, still I will remember it forever. It's something else to see one in the air next to you!
I also did this in game at a nav beacon, I was stationary, when a player in a Sidey came up real close to me, but didn't respond over comms,so I gave him a wing waggle. I don't think he knew what that meant though.
So guys if you get a waggle from someone, it's a friendly gesture. Same as 07 over comms.

I used to live just up the road from Duxford and loved seeing the classic aircraft from time to time. Made me always want to learn to fly. Unfortunately I never got to do that (other than digitally) apart from a few sessions in a glider.

I was on large landing pad on surface settlement (horizon beta). I came back to surface from inside of the settlement to see srv flying and smashing in to my windscreen. Perfect timing for that CMDR.

We flashed lights for each other

nice! love the spitfire (although the black widow will always be my favorite)

thank god he wing waggled you though. if he had wing tipped you instead he'd likely go post about how he got friend zoned even though he was flying a "gentleman's vehicle"

Sweet and a real feeling. Like getting a horn blast from a trucker when you were kids on a bridge.

Many moons ago when I was doing an RAF Scholarship at Leicester, I was solo in a Cessna 152 when I was advised there was an US F16 approaching low and fast from the nearby base. I wing waggle him and it did it back, but MUCH better, so fast so precise and a nice smile on my face :)

I did an experience flight at Duxford a few years ago and I flew a Tigermoth. There was a Hurricane around at the same time and it was a great experience.

Iv also had a U.S black stealth bomber come fairly close to me. It was at 'The Wash' near Huntingdon, it's restricted military airspace over the wash, and I often see military aircraft flying low and doing fast high G turns.
The day I was warned off by the stealth bomber I was flying right on the edge of their airspace. I guess they didn't like that. They may be stealthy, but boy are they noisy!

Yeah they used do flight testing of the F-117 out at Air Force Plant 42 and you could definitely hear them taking off. Nothing like the SR 71, but noisier than an F-15 or F-16. I used to get a kick out of the space shuttle landing at Edwards AFB and it's double sonic boom shaking everything as it flew past. SR 71 did that too.

Haven't seen a Spitfire in awhile. They'd have them from time to time at airshows at Edwards but you didn't see them doing freeflight around the area like you did with American warbirds. Love the Spit, such a glorious plane.

Which reminds me. The first time I heard (and saw) the Bf109 was a flight pretty low right over my house. I had to rush outside to see what it was, which ended up being a whole squadron flying in low formation. Been in love with the sound of the DB ever since. Love the Merlin, but the DB has an otherworldly sound.

I try to do that whenever I see an other CMDR. Even in SC - just in case that CMDR has me targeted.

You weren't waggling a 200 passenger aircraft I hope?

Very cool! I remember a few occasions during my student pilot days sharing the pattern with a B-17 when they would come by for charity flights. I'd love to fly in an old warbird one day.
