Winging up with NPCs

Is it possible to wing up with an NPC ship? I don't think it's possible but I thought I would ask anyway, at least to get some discussion going on it. Up until now I have always flown alone, and at a disadvantage when fighting a wing of ships. Would like to be able to form a wing with NPCs. That way I don't have to deal with humans. And when I say not dealing with humans, I mean having to coordinate being online at the same time or agreeing on where to go and what to do.

No it isn't possible. I dare say that a wing of NPCs won't make a lot of difference fighting player wings.

Presently, no.
But I vaguely recall FD saying something about it being an option in a future update.
That's about all I can remember.

I vaguely remember seeing something but I'm sure I saw a second/third-hand reference to it like yours so didn't want to mention it.

That's good news if they are considering it. Does not seem fair for players like me that are not in any clans or personally know anybody else playing the game. Sure it may not be that great against a wing of CMDRs, but against a wing of NPC vultures or something, sure. Or even against another wing of a human with NPCs.

Perhaps that is Powerplay?
