Right now, I ,like many people am avoiding Open play, we want to be part of a community, like the chats and camraderie, we even like the occasional PvP.
Wings has made the populated areas of the Open Server off-limits to any expensive vessels, it's just not worth the cost of insurance for the good conversations only to be inevitably set upon by a 6 man player Wing....you wouldn't mind if they were playing Pirates, but they're almost always playing griefer; and only interested in Player Killing rather than PvP (PvPPPPPP is just crazy game design, and usually requires it's own mode within a game as all Developers know, how this wasn't picked up in Beta I have no idea).
In Open PvP before Wings you could fight or run, post Wings and we find that a PvWing battle is impossible to run from, Ive seen the FSD take over 2 minutes charging and stuck at 90% for 1:30 due to the enemy Wing (are we using a Wings collective mass, or is this an FDL exclusive bug, as Ive seen it always with the FDL, both player and NPC?).
It is also impossible to fight, as a 6vs1 fight in any game is pretty unfair and would be considred griefing in most games...It WILL certainly drive away players in their droves; I love this game and I am invested enough to stick around in Solo while Wings are better developed as a concept...because right now:
Wings+Open= Trolls charter.
A mode for Wings where Wings fight only other Wings (beefed up NPCs or Player Wings) would certainly address this, and leave Open as it was pre-Wings...where a PvP was fairly rare, a PPvP very rare, and a PPPPPPvP almost impossible to arrange.
