'Wings' portion of update. What will you do with it?

Nothing because I have no gamer friends. Correction, I have one and he already quit ED after the first week. *sad face*

Maybe I will make some friends lol.

I have to say I for one am not really looking forward to Wings, given that I am, and will be for some time, that lone trader/explorer and sometime BH. The bottom line for me (and I'm not whining) is that I am a casual player (due to time constraints) and don't have, nor am I likely to have, a large list of "friends" i can call on to fly with, so I'll be flying solo in my little ill equiped Adder. Maybe I'm wrong but what i foresee is being pulled out of SC every 5 minutes by a wing (not necessarily CMDRs) and being blown out of the sky. That's going to get old very quickly.

And before someone chimes in to tell me to go play in Solo. I don't want to. I've played in Open since I started and intend to stay there. I fully understand and accept the risks of playing in Open, If i'm carry valuable cargo and loose it, so be it. If I get creamed now any again BH I have no problem with that either, but i just hope that this isn't going to be the start of the game becoming impossible for me to play the way I want to play. I've never been much of a PvPer, mainly due to lack of skill, but I'm not averse to it and understand that it's part of the game, however if it becomes the ONLY way to play due to Wings, then I'm going to struggle with Elite.

I dip in and out as time allows and I enjoy it, and what I do in the game. I just hope that I can contunie to play like that. I'm not one of these people that are bleating about getting into an Anaconda in 5 minutes without having put the effort in, I'd just like to be able to play my game they way I want. Not to much to ask is it?

Same here, I am self employed and have three teenage (or close) daughers. Maybe we should be friends.

As I'm on my way to Sag A and around 4000LY from Sol, I think its going to be a couple of months before I experience wings.

Maybe we should. More than happy to. I only play at the weekend, and a wingman is always handy. Sling me a PM.

This forum is as social as I get when it comes to video games. I guess I'll ignore them, run away, or destroy them all, depending on the situation.

pretty sure if we had wings last night I would have been taken out. Been playing since beta and no stranger to combat, but no pvp. I am clean and have an A equipped viper ---its the end of the night for me and I am headed to my home station to park and go to bed. I see there are 4 cmdrs in SC, 3 cobras and a viper all clean. I think nothing of it when I'm interdicted by the viper---he is still clean, so I text whats up and he opens fire on me ---ok so we tangle and both manage to get each others shields down and take hull damage when he bugs out ----I'm at 65% and have a cracked canopy so I figure to get to the station where I can get repaired ----as soon as I jump back in SC I'm interdicted by a cobra ---I submit and boost to escape for repairs and am interdicted again, so we tangle I don't lose shields again but am forced to use a couple of shield cells and so does he when he bugs out--- now I know where this is going ---I am perfectly willing to fight to the death, and this was an exciting 45 min, but all they were doing was taking turn to wear me down till one of them could finish me off. I need to get to bed so I jump to a neighboring system for repairs and park for the night.
Am I complaining about what they were doing ---NO --- the only complaint I have is if other CMDRS want to be bad people wear your wanted tag as a badge of honor instead of running to pay off your bounties so you can fly aroung clean ----If you just want to take me out at least send me a message, so I know what to expect ---I'm not going to run or combat log and am willing to fight to the death, but I see what happens in most pvp fights ---as soon as someone is at a disadvantage they bug out
Ok done venting --I know that if they had been able to wing up it would have been 2 or 3 on one and I wouldn't of had a chance.
I've been cordial to any cmdrs Ive come across but pretty much fly as a loner ----so what is in store with wings, are we going to have roving gangs just taking out lone cmdrs they happen to come across--its going to be interesting to see where this goes.

I think that anybody who interdicts another commander should have their FSD disabled until one of the ships is destroyed or the other commander bugs out. I hate cowards who pick a fight they think they're going to win, then run away when things don't go to plan.

I'm mainly an explorer ATM so my interaction with wings will likely be somewhat uncommon, I expect some light NPC wings although those kinds of interdictions are easy enough to avoid.

There is the possibility that I could run into an exploration wing, but I hardly think that'd be much of a threat. Unless other wing is unscrupulous, and would pursue and destroy other explorers to get first claim data.

Once I get some funding built up from exploration though I plan on setting up a fully kitted up Viper or Vulture and running a high-range pursuit squadron.

Also I've been going over the mechanics and I've come up with some interesting possibilities for military wings with a heavy assault, multi-role capability. Some interesting possibilities once conflicts get more expansion.

+rep to you. You've voiced my doubts on wings here and experienced a taste of what I fear is going to be a real problem. Gangs of murderous players using the cloak of 'piracy' as a disguise ganging up on lone traders for cheap laughs with no comeback because they can pay off their bounties and clear their 'wanted' tags almost immediately. They should be tagged as 'fugitives' as it was in the original 1984 Elite and have to work hard to get their 'fugitive' status back to just 'wanted' and then eventually 'clean' again. Bounties should be a lot higher too. I've no problem with pirates who wear their bounty tags with pride though. I also have been playing in 'open' since the start and do not want to go to 'solo' mode. I always get twitchy when I see another CMDR pip on the screen and I sometimes have a quick look at their loadout and status to try and determine if they could be a threat but there's no real way of knowing - it does make me quite paranoid at times but the few chats I've had with other CMDR's make it worthwhile to stay in 'open'.

I agree with you that it's all to easy to clear your name from Wanted to Clean, so there's very little indication of what a CMDRs intentions are. I think that having a fugitive status is an excellent idea. I also think that career pirates would wear the badge with pride, and I'm happy with that and you know where you stand. As it stands it's going to be to easy for gangs of thugs to turn over someone jump to a station clear there name and do it all over again to another unsuspecting loner.

As do I. Being a Fugitive in a given jurisdiction is a staple of the series, and should be reinstated.

Obviously if you get caught and vaped in a jurisdiction with Fugitive status, and there's no permadeath, there should be some punishment. Perhaps in a jurisdiction where you are wanted, you may not have any insurance claim? And thus get stuck with a Sidewinder, and a fine for 5000-10000 credits that you must pay in 24 hours?
