Wish the launcher would remember my choice to play Legacy and not reset itself to Odyssey, without my approval.

Exactly what it says above...

Another PS for Fdev:
  • Odyssey (which CTD every time I press the 'LAUNCH' or the 'Disembark' button in the cockpit of the ship at the station) should be called: Elite Dangerous Open Beta
  • Legacy - both Horizons and Vanilla (which works and finally is a completed game) should be called: Elite Dangerous.

There is already enough of a grind ingame, that I don't need the extra cherry grind on top by needing to reselect the 'Legacy' option EVERY-SINGLE-TIME the launcher is restarted.

Fdev's mechanics to push us away from Legacy towards Odyssey are starting to look like the annoying dipstick mechanics of Just Stop Oil.

If you never play live you can uninstall it leaving Legacy as the only installed option (you will need to re-uninstall live after any game update).

My account is direct with Frontier, I have a shortcut to the launcher on my desktop & I have modified that to include the /autorun /autoquit switches & it runs the default (which with only legacy installed would be legacy Horizons) without requiring any interaction with the launcher.

I play both Legacy & Odyssey & that shortcut runs Odyssey for me, I have a second shortcut that has the /edh switch which shows only two choices in the launcher, Odyssey & Legacy Horizons. In my case it always defaults to Odd as you say, but if you have only legacy installed it will only show that one.

I think saying a fully released game should be called a beta is a bit childish.

I do agree it's clear that FDev want to push those who can access live to play that, I gather it was confusing some new players when legacy was the default. Insisting that Live be installed is a bit draconian, simply updating only the packages the customer already has installed would be more reasonable without confusing new customers.

If this means you have to uninstall Odyssey every time it updates the Launcher, I'll pass.

Can you share some light on how you create a shortcut that launches Legacy Horizons?

The only thing that is childish is denying that Odyssey is a beta.

Let me illustrate that with another example....

Are you familiar with DCS? It has an Open Beta and a Release version. Both are very playable, and I have DCS Open Beta installed and don't bother with Release, because it is a piece of software that works as intended.

Odyssey with it's viewmaster VR 1st person mechanics and other bugs still present in Legacy after all these years, shows Fdev's lack of interest in solving issues and demonstrates that they are just keen on creating new content (much of it bugged) to wet the appetite of new players and keep the service going... Calling Odyssey a BETA is calling a Cat a Cat. In my world a cat and a püssy are two different things, maybe not in yours...

Legacy is pretty much a complete and mostly bug free product which does not require any updates... a VR version of Frontier Elite 2 which does its job very well.

Yes and that is wrong. If I wish to play Odyssey I will, Like I said... I bought Odyssey and as an alpha backer will get all subsequent updates, they have my money already. I don't need Fdev's 'soft' coerce grind BEFORE I am ingame. I expect the grind ingame, but somehow Fdev managed to start the grind BEFORE you are in. Unbelievable...

WinRar also has a nag screen every time you use it unless you paid for it. Unlike WinRar, which I did not purchase, I paid top dollar for ED 10+ lightyears ago.

Anyone found a solution to this? I play in VR and it is a pain having Odyssey start, then have to close it to go to the launcher and choose Horizon from there. I don't know how ho uninstall odyssey, and even when I have done that. Each time there is an update, it reinstalls it'self. Wish I'd never bought the Odyssey. I only did it to support FDEV. I'm only interested in playing in VR and that's not happening in Odyssey.

The situation hasn't changed. AFAIK all the gameplay in Legacy also supports VR in Live and in both games after clicking 'play' you still have a minute or so to adjust your headset while the game loads.

I don't think Live re-installing itself on every update is related to Odyssey, if you hadn't bought it the Live Horizons client would re-install itself anyway.

If you enjoy Legacy play it while you can imo, one day you may not be able to any more.
