Wishlist - Why I'll be back in 6 months

I have no doubt that these threads have been done to death, so I'll try to keep this brief.

I absolutely love the scope of the game, and the idea of the game. Combat is fun, manipulating sector influence is interesting, dynamic quests seem like they have potential, crime is difficult and rewarding, and there's nothing quite like finding a sector with 30+ unexplored bodies.

It's tedious at times, but it would be worth if I felt I was building something. I'm not, though, so I'm bored.

To every person about to hit reply and spout the typical drivel of "Make your own goals! What do you want to do?", just stop... please. The game needs to be implemented in a way that enables that sort of freedom. Currently it doesn't.

But you asked, so here's what I want:

- When i'm the first player to discover a sector, I want a 'discovered by' line in the description.

- I want to be able to create my own faction. Maybe it's a combat faction, maybe it's a trade or mining faction, maybe it's an explorer faction.

- I want myself or my faction to be able to initiate the construction of a station in a sector, and pay to have jobs show up in the stations of neighboring sectors, for delivery of the required materials for construction.

- I want my faction to be able to fight for influence within a sector where they have a physical presence.

- I want to be able to dig a home in an asteroid, or rent space in a station, or acquire any sort of home base as a player. It doesn't need to be big, or galaxy changing; it just needs to be mine (or my factions).

- I want to be able to facilitate colonization of newly discovered Earth-like planets.

- I want to be able to import faction-specific user-created decals for my ship.

In short, I want a sandbox where having goals means I can reach them. I might have to be a cog in the machine for a long time to get there, but I can create change, and eventually be part of the universe instead of helpless within it.

Power Fantasy? Yeah, a bit. But that's the point, right? We've got a massive universe here... let us make a piece of it our own.

Those sound like great features, but I think you should give it another try, find something new you love in the game and that way you have enough money to fuel these projects when the features do come. You never know if it could be 6 months or 6 years until these features are implemented

Totally agree with OP. We arn't talking Eve here but some degree of impact and player lead content would be good. I love the idea if my own little base where I can share stuff with pals. We don't need corp stuff just minor faction type development.

Everyone if of course entitled to their opinion. With so many of these threads around I'd personally love to see some original ideas. What I see - for the most part - is copy/paste from EVE (this is not directed specifically at your post OP; it's what I've seen in many threads over the past week or so) For example - why build space stations? Why not space ports or manufacturing facilities? Why not spaceships? And why create a sub faction within a system or sector? Why not create your own major faction and go for Galaxy domination? These are rhetorical questions - I'd just love to see a bunch of ideas that go beyond what one game elsewhere introduced. I don't think EVE is perfect by any stretch, so I struggle with why so many of the ideas - posted all over this forum, not this post - are just lists of current EVE functionality.

Again - this is not directed at you specifically OP!

honestly speaking, after watching https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dJzizYUEF9c this video, you get to the questions part and it seems like braben doesn't really know what he wants, the answers are pretty much fumbled, ppl ask things like 'will we get to own a station' or 'will we get player guilds or clans' and the answers are just basically 'i dunno'

it feels like they fumbled the whole multiplayer thing, its like it was a last minute decision and now they don't wanna pis off the core elite fan base but also it seems like they do actually want ppl to play something that feels like a deep game.

all we can do now is wait and see if it grows any depth or not. only time will tell.

like the part about clans/guilds 'i don't want mafioso clans taking over areas and saying if you come here you will die' why make it multiplayer then with pirate roles, i mean talk about the right hand not knowing what the left is doing.

These were the first thoughts that came to mind; I've never actually played Eve.

Either way, it's the concepts that mattered to me, not the details. Player Ownership. The ability to make your goals a reality... goals other than upgrading your ship, and helping change nameplates on sector labels.

Scale and terminology doesn't matter... stations, outputs, orbital tiki-huts... whatever. Manufacturing facilities? Sure... allow us to use the resources we mine, instead of just selling them off.

We need to be enabled to do more, to make the grindy bits have value. At least a day job has the prospect of changing the world in some way; here your grinding is meaningless.

I've played off and on since early beta, so I think I've given it enough time at this point. I expect they'll start adding depth in the coming months, so this isn't an 'I quit' post... just taking a hiatus, and leaving some thoughts. The game is too shallow to be worth the journey at the moment. There are a glut of other games to play while waiting for this one to develop further.

Op, you seem a wonderfully creative and imaginative type of fellow. Why don't you team up with a programmer or 2, some graphical artists and a producer type, and create this wonderful game you've envisioned here... instead of trying to bulldoze it though the forums onto a group of developers who've already made their game? My God... so many "I wants". That's not a very virtuous character trait... but making your own excellent game based off your vision, repleat with all your various and sundrey 'wants', for all the rest of us to play, would be. :)

Are you kidding? They PO'd the core elite fan base when they decided it would be multiplayer to begin with. Most of us wanted it to be a single player offline game like all the other elites. Would have saved so many issues, and kept so many of the pew pew crowd that want all the development to go toward pvp out of the waters, but Braben had this vision of a real time economy and so this is where we are.

heh its a shame its not even a real time player driven economy, that would actually be engaging.

well i feel sorry for you guys, i would have probably preferred a single player elite, there wouldn't have been so much expectation.

There's nothing inherently wrong with wanting something, and even less wrong with stating it plainly. Not trying to bulldoze; just posting the ideas so they can get lost in the forum.

The game is shallow. There wouldn't be so many threads about the same topics otherwise. I have given thought to making a game, and I am a part-time indie dev, but frankly... Frontier is much better than the team of people I could pull together, I don't have millions of pounds in funding, and they already have an excellent game that just needs a little something extra to make it shine.

Anyway, not gone for good. Gonna wait for development to simmer a bit, and we'll see if it grows into its potential.

Not being a backer (cost was far to high for me) and not following the development of this game other than, "its being made" whilst also not ever playing eve, I see an issue that has left me feeling a bit deflated.

I get the vision of a real time economy and trade being effected by players fair enough.
But Ive found a nice little system, Id like to flip the neighbouring to control of what Ive decided will be "home". I even ordered a Tflight HOTAS X which arrived yesterday and Ive been happily playing around with.

But I came to a realisation last night. Even though I play in a private group (one could argue, effectively solo with co op) Im never going to be able to, ever, flip the systems by myself because of everyone else working against me.

Now Im left feeling why even bother?

Well, my wishlist is much longer than that :) So I guess I'll be back in two years or so.

Sadly, quite disappointed at this point.
