I have no doubt that these threads have been done to death, so I'll try to keep this brief.
I absolutely love the scope of the game, and the idea of the game. Combat is fun, manipulating sector influence is interesting, dynamic quests seem like they have potential, crime is difficult and rewarding, and there's nothing quite like finding a sector with 30+ unexplored bodies.
It's tedious at times, but it would be worth if I felt I was building something. I'm not, though, so I'm bored.
To every person about to hit reply and spout the typical drivel of "Make your own goals! What do you want to do?", just stop... please. The game needs to be implemented in a way that enables that sort of freedom. Currently it doesn't.
But you asked, so here's what I want:
- When i'm the first player to discover a sector, I want a 'discovered by' line in the description.
- I want to be able to create my own faction. Maybe it's a combat faction, maybe it's a trade or mining faction, maybe it's an explorer faction.
- I want myself or my faction to be able to initiate the construction of a station in a sector, and pay to have jobs show up in the stations of neighboring sectors, for delivery of the required materials for construction.
- I want my faction to be able to fight for influence within a sector where they have a physical presence.
- I want to be able to dig a home in an asteroid, or rent space in a station, or acquire any sort of home base as a player. It doesn't need to be big, or galaxy changing; it just needs to be mine (or my factions).
- I want to be able to facilitate colonization of newly discovered Earth-like planets.
- I want to be able to import faction-specific user-created decals for my ship.
In short, I want a sandbox where having goals means I can reach them. I might have to be a cog in the machine for a long time to get there, but I can create change, and eventually be part of the universe instead of helpless within it.
Power Fantasy? Yeah, a bit. But that's the point, right? We've got a massive universe here... let us make a piece of it our own.
