There was a brief moment when I thought a result was on the cards as Bairstow was smashing stuff about. What a bizarre game.

It was a big ask though - Pakistan were always going to slow the game down as much as they could, and of course the further you hit the ball the longer it'll take them to get it back (witness Bairstow's 6 which took several minutes to retrieve)...

On the upside, England will be much the happier campers this morning, especially after Rashid's performance. ('Think you have a good leggie? Well guess what...')

That's it! I'm off!!

Not really, but I will be away a few days hooning around Silverstone in the new smoker... probably just as well, otherwise I'll be throwing things at the t.v. by this time tomorrow.

A bit of a shame after all that, with Anderson having some form for bailing his team out ..
and after Rashid did all the hard work .. Oh England, you did it to yourself on the third day!

If that is a dislocated shoulder, I pity Stokes - from experience, I know how bloody painful that can be!
He'll be out for quite a while, and it's his bowling arm too - that can takes ages to get back to normal.

Just been watching England against South Africa. England batting. Here's the stats for the morning session:

Overs: 25
Runs: 196
Wickets: 0
Session run rate: a whisker under 8 runs an over

Stokes 204* off 166 balls (2nd fastest double century in test history)
Bairstow 95* off 139 balls

Batting records galore.

We are not worthy. Again.

and Temba Bavuma's first century by a black South African, day 4

now 5th day, England 2 wickets down and a long stay-in + concentrate ..

6 down at this point and looking decidedly edgy! A draw is probably still the safe bet, but if England DO lose then they will only have themselves to blame - 9 catches dropped by my count including both Amla and DeVilliers before they got going. You can't excuse Broad's tetchiness of course, but you can certainly understand it!
