I had this happen to me once, but didn't make the connection. I thought I had damaged it's engines but the scans showed little to no damage to any of it's sub-systems. I do recall now that I helped the cobra destroy my wingman so that I could take on the cobra alone. What was funny was that after the cobra stopped, if I got too close it would rotate and spin its backside to me. If I kept the right distance I could use the thrusters to strafe around it and get a nice look at the whole ship.
Great vid btw. Nice chase-cam moves and a lovely close-up shot of the cobra's hull. My cobra didn't do any constant thrusting when it stopped, like the one does in your vid. It also didn't respond to my firing at it, unless I destroyed it faster than it could react.
[edit] I just played the scenario as you did and the same thing happened. The cobra just tries to keep away from me if I get too close. So I set engine power to full and hit the boost button just to see if he could match that speed. He couldn't. The impact demolished my sidewinder.
