The wolves aren't perfect but I was so happy when I got a chance to sit down and watch my wolf habitat, which was composed of 2 females and a male and then 2 pups. My wolves mated and after the mating actually played with each other while the female wolf was pregnant. When she gave birth to the two pups I initially thought that they were going to flee mom like babies almost always do in PlanZoo. One did run away a bit but then came back. The other pup stayed close to mom. The more adventerous pup would wander off and circle back to mom. The other pup would follow mom when she moved around the habitat. It was neat that I could differientiate the babies based on their consistantly different behavior. On two seperate occasions I saw mom playing with a pup and one of those occasions included two seperate play behaviors.
Something that bummed me out is that the pups did not play with each other. They should definetely play together and sleep cuddled up. They did often run around together howling and I think once one sniffed the other but wolf pups play fight. The social interactions still need to be significantly more frequent but this feels much closer to what I was envisioning for the game and gives me hope that we'll see solid improvements in socialization continue to come with patches. Each interaction itself should last longer (the mom playing was very brief and I would have likely missed it if I hadn't been staring at my wolves exclusively). I think it would also help realism to chain more social behaviors together so they don't see so random at times but if the frequency goes up and more species have better group dynamics/babies staying near mom I will be jazzed.
