General / Off-Topic Wonder Woman '84

Kind of a guilty pleasure but I was really looking forward to this.

I'm not really into all the progressive "isms" but I thought the first WW film was simply a decent movie.. and the "no man's land" scene, along with the subsequent battle, was downright flippin' epic.

So, it pains me to say it but the new one IS as bad as all the smug reviews by "haters" say it is.

Setting aside one particular issue for the moment, the entire movie is just a dumpster fire of random events, paradoxes, coincidences and really bad CGI and stunt work.
It starts off slow and, to be charitable, you think "okay, it's a long movie so it's okay that it's taking it's time" but then it just doesn't improve.
It's more like a 3-hour episode of Dynasty than a superhero movie.

And then there's the "Steve Trevor" thing, where he comes back from the dead and his spirit inhabits some random guy's body... and then WW takes this rando' on a dangerous adventure (and, apparently, sleeps with him) without the consent of the guy who's body Steve Trevor is inhabiting.
I kind of feel like that would be considered in very poor taste if it'd happened to a female character.

I really, really wanted to enjoy the movie but it's just... terrible.

cinemas are closed here so cant see it. But they are already making WW3.

The people who always complain about girls in every film seem triggered by Wonder Woman, I can't imagine why .

As I said, I've seen several rather smug reviews by the sort of people you're probably referring to and there's no doubt that they're taking great delight in reporting that WW84 is a terrible film but, unfortunately, it really is.

It's not "Ghostbusters 2016" bad but it's simply a long-winded film with a hackneyed story, significant plot-holes, poor pacing, technical deficiencies and lousy CGI and effects.

It's kind of like with the Jurassic Park movies.
When people go to see those, they just want to see dinosaurs doing stuff.
As long as the film-makers provide that, the audience will be fairly happy.
To make a JP movie worthy of criticism, the film has to have some pretty awful aspects which undermine the basic premise of "dinosaurs doing stuff".

It's a similar thing with superhero movies, IMO.
As long as the movie focuses on "superhero doing stuff", it's likely to receive a positive response unless there are significant factors that undermine it.
Alas, WW84 does have those factors, many of them.

I don't think I've ever seen a superhero film I'd classify as being a good film. They can be entertaining, but it's not exactly high art so I go in with low expectations.

Mystery men is a good film, more parody than anything else though and I like anything with Janeane Garofalo in it.

Wrong, what people complain about is bad writing and stupid agendas in movies. Lots of great women in many movies, but somehow this is turned into men hate women, it's far form that, my wife and daughter is actually the first to point out how stupid this is.
