Won't play until release

It's hard to compare ED to other games but for me there is no sense to play until the player data, more precisely my money, is not being saved between updates. As this will almost not happen until release, playing before that time seems senseless to me because ED mostly is a farming game. Ok, you can practice flying and take a look how everything works, but diving into the same universe a second time will not be that interesting as at first.

So, what i'd want to see is a freeze of the player database, virtually a release of the player data. The world, though, could be reset but playing more now will reduce the fun i will have at release because it will be boring to practically do the same things to get where i was before the reset. I know how to fly, can dock, can hyper and supercruise, can fight as good as i want atm, i know what is behind signal sources and i have found good trade routes where i can possibly make 100k a day. But what for?

;tldr
So, imho FD should make a database pre-release and let people already farm and keep their money through beta world resets. In my view there is nothing to do now as long as i lose my money every 2 months.

Um, you do understand the concept of a beta right???

The worst situation that ED could put themselves in, is for on release there are already players in fully pimped out ships preying on the day one noobs - ie ED's new customers:eek:

Anyway, the beta economy will be very different to release, right now in beta you can become a gazillionare in a single sitting, in release I very much doubt that will be the case.

Why not use the Beta to

a. get used to the game
b. practise your skills

and

c. with beta you learn a bit at a time rather than having learn the whole smash in one go....

I know which I'd prefer!

In most cases, you cannot keep the data, when the model around the data is constantly changing. Not without risk of, you name it... The game is not finished, far from it. Don't want to help to get is as stable is possible? Then don't. :)

See you after release.

This in particular seems a bad idea to me:

By the time ED goes live it will not much resemble the game we're playing right now. The credits alpha players earned are not equal to the credits beta players earned and neither will be equal to the credits earned in final release. The challenges are different, the game loops wider or tighter, the risks tougher or milder. Maybe credits will be easier to get in final release, maybe harder, but critically they won't be comparable and it would be unfair to act as if they are. Unfair and unnecessary.

We've always known the wipe is coming. It was always well-publicised.

I don't know if I speak for the majority, but I didn't sign on for beta so that I could build up a good ship and a pile of money before other players got a chance to get started. That has little appeal for me, in fact it would totally spoil this for me. I signed up so that I could be among the first to experience this game and to watch the process of it growing and changing.

Well, i use my "wealth" to do things i wouldn't do if i knew i could keep the credits at release ;)

At the moment i have fun with PvP at Freeport. I lose some Anacondas? No problem, the money will be gone anyway!
I won't play a PvP heavy profession at release...so NOW is the time to learn to defend myself.

Very happy with the wipes :)

That everyone starts from scratch at the Gamma release makes perfect sense to me. Evidently it makes perfect sense to Frontier.

Request denied.

Before that....

BETA is for supporting Development, the most important thing here is to help our dessired game to be developed as fast as possible, we are BETA TESTERS, we are supporting Frontier because we had decided to do it so.

Then I encourage you to support this amazing, game, but only if you want so.

By the way pardon my english, I'm trying to do my best without an automatic translator.:p

That is an extremely narrow view. Why did you buy into the beta? Did you think you could get ahead of other players and be all rich and powerful ahead of everyone else? That is very sad.

...ED mostly is a farming game.

Right now perhaps, but there will be many different ways to enjoy the game without having to build up much cash or reputation. Just fly off to find adventure. If you end up 'mostly farming' in the final game, imo you're doing it wrong.

+1. Speaks for me too. :)

But what did you expect from Beta? It was known all the time that Beta is for testing not for playing and that the final wipe is planned with the release of Gamma. Right now we are finding as much bugs as we can so that FD could fix them before the release.

experience is invaluable, if OP want's to play together with 80% of commanders that will kill him easily then it's his choice, also as others have pointed out there are things you will never do in full release and beta is exactly when you can do whatever you want without any consequences ;)

Its not the fault of frontier that you cannot see any sense in playing in beta, lots of us do, on both accounts.

I was thinking of War Thunder. It's in beta since a year and will probably be another year but you keep your progress over patches and will keep it into release.

I'm just at the end of ED's current content. And the farming content, which i like, isn't playable. What more is there to test? Maybe public beta came too early.
