Won't play until release

I was thinking of War Thunder. It's in beta since a year and will probably be another year but you keep your progress over patches and will keep it into release.

I'm just at the end of ED's current content. And the farming content, which i like, isn't playable. What more is there to test? Maybe public beta came too early.
Lots of bugs still being found by testers .Have you tried every ship every diff loadout gone everywhere ,tried to break the game ? Dont class it as other betas ED have their own way of what is a Beta :)

I don't want to go through all the content. Look at all the Early Access/ Alpha/ Beta games. I've played some of them and i'm through so many of them before they even got out of Alpha. I don't want to do the same with ED because i favor this game too much.

Fair enough dont want to burnout can understand that, come back in Gamma ,should have loads more content and may not even be wiped before release :)

Theres no point farming in the beta. Its a work in progress, alot of the game is missing, its unstable and its going to be reset anyway.

Theres no point farming and being able to keep it, as the game is going to go through some serious changes to gameplay and balance.

Imagine you farmed 10 mill in a Lakon9 and bought an Anaconda. You keep all that... Then the full game comes along, trading and whatever is not as profitable as the beta for what ever reason, the Lakon cargo hold gets a nerf, so you were caring more than whats possible and the Lakon is now twice as expensive so you afforded it alot quicker than possible.

And on top of that AI have had a boost so making it from A to B is harder now, encounters are more common and more dangerous, Reputation could lead to more enemys and conficts,

Everybody else has to earn that money on Normal mode. While you did it with cheats enabled.

And.., the game isnt just about farming, just cos theres little all to do but farm in the beta, and even thats not what you are suppose to be doing, doesnt mean you have little all to do but Giles it in the main game.

It's hard to compare ED to other games but for me there is no sense to play until the player data, more precisely my money, is not being saved between updates. As this will almost not happen until release, playing before that time seems senseless to me because ED mostly is a farming game. Ok, you can practice flying and take a look how everything works, but diving into the same universe a second time will not be that interesting as at first.

So, what i'd want to see is a freeze of the player database, virtually a release of the player data. The world, though, could be reset but playing more now will reduce the fun i will have at release because it will be boring to practically do the same things to get where i was before the reset. I know how to fly, can dock, can hyper and supercruise, can fight as good as i want atm, i know what is behind signal sources and i have found good trade routes where i can possibly make 100k a day. But what for?

;tldr
So, imho FD should make a database pre-release and let people already farm and keep their money through beta world resets. In my view there is nothing to do now as long as i lose my money every 2 months.

Its not about you its about finding bugs and gameplay issues for FD.

Jeez .. Is there something wrong with the education system these days ?... erm, ok dont answer that. :D

OK, so on one hand we have ED which has been open to non-premium players for just over 2 months. The business model appears to be based on selling as many copies of the game, subsequent update packs and in games extras such as skins as they can.

On the other hand we have WT which you have is already 1 year in Beta development and perhaps has another year to go. Their business model seems to rest almost entirely on in-game purchases such as premium tanks, fancy shells and so on.

If Frontier are attempting to shift units of the game (especially post launch) then it's in their interest to start with all players from scratch. It would simply be bad business to have all those Beta players being able to afford a fleet of Anacondas. If Gaijin are interested in shifting in-game purchases then it would be calamitous if they decided to suddenly reset all player accounts prior to launch. "Hey Gijian support, where the hell is my Gold Plated Condor that I paid you €50 for?" (If you are in your mid-30s you might get the reference)

I get that you don't want to play. I not playing because I've had enough of the game it its current incarnation. But it would be a mistake if Frontier did not reset accounts immediately prior to Gamma launch. Nothing you have said here convinces me otherwise.

I have just joined at Standard Beta. I know this, I know it is not finished, I know I can help development.

It's tempting to just go and 'play' but I'm going to gain some experience with the UI and current mechanics and have some fun and provide some feedback along the way.

Granted I have only just started this and with so many people being around so long the idea of 'lil ol me' providing anything useful seems ludicrous.

I will try not to 'play' until release either.

I don't know how long away from full release we are, I sort of can't see it being in 2014 given all FD are trying to do.

I hope I don't burn out but to me this is the sort of game experience and sandbox environment that has longevity.

Ok so you want to :
Be the best in game with all the content of course before release.
You dont want to help devs to tracks the bugs and help them to do a better game, you prefer to do it as a solo guy who dont care what Braben's Team is doing and just want to use the game as a tool you will left two month later because you have no interest in nothing.

I suggest you to read a bit the forums and the entire web on what is a beta for. To leave you some time i explain a few : beta is used IN FIRST TO TRACK BUGS ,improve mechanisms of the game and help the dev team to do their job better.

Beta is for proud, fair people who want to help David to make a dream.

This dream is called Elite Dangerous and thats why there is so many people on this forum.

If you don't want to help them on this view i will say this : Thanks for giving Braben's team some money to make this game, it will be well used for sure.

In response to the OP, hey that sounds great! Take a long sabbatical. Alot of us who will still be playing between now and full release, honing our piloting skills will see you then. Hell, I wish more people thought like you! ;)
