Work Rosters - Janitors - What do they do exactly?

Simple question...

I usually don't set a work roster for janitors because I frankly don't know what that would do to a janitors "brain". I'm used to older games (RCT) where you could set the "work/walking area" for the janitor.

For a mechanic, it's easy. Create the roster, click on the rides you want included in the roster... assign the roster to a mechanic and WABLAMO!!! Complete. The mechanic takes care of the rides that are set in the work roster (inspections, refurbs).

If I set the same roster to a janitor though... what does that do exactly? Does it keep them on all of the paths in between all of the rides in the roster or something?

Pardon my confusion... and thank you.

You can add shops to rosters too, in case you hadn't realised.

I'm not sure how they behave, I've not spent time watching and figuring it out.

I'd assume they just take the shortest route to the next nearest stop on the roster, stopping to clean anything they notice on the way.

I like ot use them to make sure my janitors are spread out evenly and don't just wander round a single area of the park.

However, the rosters can easily end up with paths that never get walked.. in which case you can use an entertainment point or whatever they are called to force people to walk to certain areas.

You select your rides/shops and the janitor will walk between them and clean and empty bins between those points. You will need to use entertainment points though as unless you only have one path between those points.

I didn't realize that about the shops, but then again.. I guess my question is why add a shop to the roster in the first place? It must directly tie into the area the janitor is willing to clean within the roster?

So if you set a roster consisting of a shop at your park entrance, and a shop on the other side of the park, and then set the roster to the janitor, the janitor would theoretically walk in between the two shops cleaning everything in between?

Awesome info!! Thank you kindly! I assume you can add "entertainment points" to work rosters? And therefore entertainment points are used for (taaadaaa!!) entertainers as well! It's all making sense now.

***EDIT - I edited for my epiphany! :)

Hi,

I have an addition to this topic: for me it's difficult to see the rosters on the map. I know the rides/coasters and shops are highlighted, but the paths are not.
I would like to see the selected roaster completely highlighted on the map when you click on it.
As well, I would like to see the already created rosters on the map, when creating a new one , this would make it more easy for creating :)

I've always just used the area tool with rosters. So this includes a total 'zone' for them to walk about it. It should include all the rides/walkways/bins/shops etc.

I think he means he just clicks and drags a box when selecting rides / etc. As far as I know, this doesn't actually select anything like paths.

I'll have to do some messing around with it. I'd like a true "work area" tool like the one I believe you and I are envisioning (old RCT days). If it doesn't choose the paths and just does the shops and rides in the selection area.... then it's not what I'm looking for. Great info all around though.. I'll do some more messing around with rosters tonight.

Yeah sorry no "work area". Just easier to drag and let it select an area of rides/shops. It still won't work out all your paths etc. You cannot add any way to make one work up a specific path without placing a load of entertainment points and then selecting them all.

I can see the use of the "area select" tool. I messed around last night with rosters. I added entertainment points when needed (it's nice because my park doesn't have too many paths going every which way) but I can see that being a pain in the rear for people that prefer more/extensive pathing. It's quite clear we need a "walking area" option for janitors (similar to older RCT titles). It's so much easier to tell a janitor what paths they need to keep clean instead of "hoping for the best" with the current implementation. I'd also love (as mentioned many times on these forums) a way to visually see what area a work roster covers. I'm talking something like a heat map for work rosters. Heat maps for litter, vomit, peep congestion, etc, etc, etc (a ton of redundant etcs), would be wonderful as well.

Yeah I am all for them once the UI is cleaned up so you can select them from a main management list of "Heatmaps" with all the ones people want.

Janitors seem to be smart when it comes to the rosters. I'd always see litter on ground since all 6-7 of them were free roaming, but once I set up two rosters for different areas, the cleanup was a lot better.
