Work Zones

If you want to set your keepers to work zones , click the zoo tab then staff , look where it says add zone to the right of a keeper , Click that then click and drag on any tiny part of a habitat on the map and it changes that habitat to a green surround , That keeper will only then look after any habitats you add to them , You can add as many habitats to a keeper as you want them to look after

Yeah so basically, zoning is daunting but super useful.
Ideal for me is to have a Keeper zone for each animal.
So for my Tigers, they have 2 Keepers assigned to their habitat, if you select an individual keeper you can choose what task that keeper does in the habitat, only one of the 2 keepers for my tigers is in charge of feeding, every keeper zone needs a keeper hut and a staff room allocated to it, to zone it select the animal enclosure you want and then a keeper hut and a staff room, and then assign the keepers you want to work in that zone.

So here is the work zone overlay in one of my zoo's (click to enlarge) Everything is yellow because I already have it assigned to various other zones, but basically, to make a zone for keepers you would click on one of the enclosures, a keeper hut and a staff room.

So when you click on the Things they will change color to indicate that you have selected those places for the zone, everything in the zone you are currently making will be blue, you can assign as many enclosures and facilities to a zone as you want. However a keeper only needs access to a keeper hut, a staff facility and an enclosure, this setup will ensure that this enclosure I selected will be taken care of by any keepers assigned to this zone.

If you click where it says 'work zone 12' yours might be any number depending on how many zones you've made in the past, but basically if you click in that spot, you can edit the name of your zone, so you could keep better track of it, so for example since this is a zone for the Peafowls, I would call it Peafowls. (totally original)

Once you do all that you can exit and go to your staff tab and click where it says no work zone, and assign your newly made work zone to the keepers you want to take care of your peafowls. Or which ever animal you set it to.

And that is the gist of it more or less, for other staff basically just assign them to what makes sense to you, the security guard I am unsure how it works and kinda just highlight everything in 1 General zone and put the security and mechanics in 1. Ideally you could put the mechanics in their own zone and assign one to each enclosure or something, but you also need to have stuff like the water filter and what not in that zone, so they can repair them.

A couple extra info, somewhat related to this, but not entirely, you can select your keeper gate and choose what quality of food to give your animals.
Click on the gate, then click on the paw icon, then click on where it says Habitat contents, you can then see the food quality and cycle it to what ever one you want to use for your animals in that enclosure. Another side note if you click on the very last tab in this interface, the one that looks like a person, it lets you choose how often your mechanics will checkup on it and vets and keepers.

Also ideal if you have many keepers assigned to the same enclosure, it might be ideal to limit what each one is doing, you can do that by selecting a keeper and then clicking the Suitcase icon and ticking what you would like that keeper to tend to, ideally you could have 1 keeper in charge of food and 1 or 2 in charge of cleaning, however there is nothing wrong with having both selected, just if you have multiple keepers set to feed the same enclosure you might waste money and cause confusion.

And one last thing I would suggest is if you are having issues with your water and power always breaking, try clicking on the item in question and navigating to this tab and changing it to every 3 months, that way it will lessen how often they break down.

A simpler explanation of what they are is a zone of work for a staff member.

If you have the "African" section of your zoo, you could set 3 keepers to that area only.

I think think the idea comes from staff members being too far away.
Say the game knows Lions need feeding. It'll allocate a free keeper to this task, but that keeper could be across the other side of the park. By the time they get to the lions, the animals are starving. The staff member may just decide that they're tired and go on a break too!

Work zones mean less travelling for the staff.
